It's cute, but only just cute. My best friend is Melinda Erin, nn Mindy. I really like Melinda and if I was using it I'd rather just use Melinda and not a nn.
Back in Oklahoma I had a friend in school named Melinda who was just called Melinda, except in her family where she was called Winnie. When she was very little, she couldn't say her name, which was Melinda Lee, and what she came up with was close to Winnie-Wee, so that was her family nn.
I suppose Mindy could be short for Miranda, or even Mildred, or Minerva, but it'd be a fairly long stretch.
I think, therefore I judge.
