Mara could definitely be a nickname for Marcella, I think I prefer Marcella to Mara.
Mara is one of those two-syllable names that does nothing for me... like Lena, Kara, Dani.
I just can't get into them, they have no oomph for me.
I do think I like it paired with a 3-syllable middle name, though, if that helps.
