A little late to the party here, but I have a step-cousin called Francesca and usually nicknamed 'Kiska' or sometimes 'Kick'.

Come on be serious!!!!This board is meant for serious name discussion and you pervert its purpose and mock us all by suggesting Bob as a nickname for Francesca!!!Bill, on the other hand, works wonderfully.

obviously Bob as a nickname for Francesca was just a joke. And regardless if you find it amusing or not, you shouldn't take it to the heart. From my expirences, too many people seem to take things way too serious on here. It's actually refreshing when someone lightens the mood and cracks a joke. Yes, this board is meant for people needing help or wanting suggestions (as all these boards are) but that doesn't mean responders should be serious and formal all the time. I mean who would want to live their life like that? Being all proper and serious 24\7? I'm just saying.A nickname for Francesca isn't hard to ponder so I don't see how this post needs to be strict. Fran, franny, cece for starters

Queenv is joking.

They did not come a cross that way at all. Typically i can tell when someone is kidding and I'm excellent at taking hints but their was nothing in their tone or words that suggested that they were in on the joke. Clearly this is a simple misunderstanding. I honestly assumed otherwise and I apologies for that.

She did suggest Bill as an alternative!

I'm perfectly willing to message the Francesca I knew, now a 62-year-old and whom I haven't seen in over twenty years, to ask her to start going by Bob. If she agrees, I can arrange a meeting.

AnyaI only know one Francesca, who goes by Fran sometimes. I really like the name but am not fond of any nicknames, which is partially why I prefer Frances and Francine.

I know Francescas that go by Fran / Frankie and Cesca.

My grandmother was named Francesca. She went by Franca (frahn-kah, not frayn-kah). I know a few people called her Francie or Frances too. (pronounces like France, the country).
Some others I have thought of:
Fran
Chessa
Chesca

I was thinking Francie myself :)

I loved Francie when I was a child, but I loved it as a full name. I was planning on having twin girls and naming them Francie and Frances.

Likely Fran or Frannie. I might be tempted to try Chess out, too, if it weren't so close to one of my own nicknames. If I was being playful with her I might call her Ranch or French Fry, but that'd just be when she was little and only around the house, more than likely.

I had a friend named Francesca who was always called Fran. While I like Francesca, and Frances, and even Francine to a degree, I don't like Fran, and that's why I'd never use any of those names. Any nickname other than Fran for any of those names seems so forced and artificial. I think it's a bad idea to use any name for which you don't like the most obvious nickname, no matter to what degree you intend for that nickname never to used.

That's why my mother ...called me Katie and not Katherine. She couldn't stand the idea of people calling me Kathy, although I think in the 90s that was probably quite unlikely.

Hmm... let's see... Frankie, Chess, and Frannie are all nice! I also like Frances as its own name.

I'd call her Cesca, Chessy or even Chess. I think they're all adorable. It's the other nns (Fran, Frannie, Frankie, etc.) that I'm not too fond of.

Franka, undoubtedly! I think it's so sweet and clunky. The Francescas I've known have all been Cheskas, apart from a single Frankie.

We would have used Franca for a Francesca too. I simply adore it.

Fran. That's really all I have for it.
