3. I do think it's a bit silly. Fit for a cartoon or video game character, but on an actual person it seems odd. Maybe as a nickname I could get behind it (for Benjamin, maybe?).

3. It's ridiculous, except maybe on a dog. It sounds like somebody's street name, or outlaw name, and I believe a few Hollywood types have used it on their kids.

I'm from Australia too, and a month or so ago I overheard a parent calling out to their 3- or 4-year-old son, Banjo. I knew it was getting popular hear but I'd never actually heard it in real life before.

I wouldn't use it either, but I don't know how much I like it. It's OK, but a bit weird. Banjo Paterson is fine, but it's still an instrument. (I'm a bit torn about that, because I do like the name Viola!)

3. I don't like it too much, but I wouldn't say it's silly. In my head, it's kind of the Australian answer to Atticus. It sounds sillier than Atticus.

I've heard of the poet Banjo Paterson, and get that people want to name their kids after a national literary figure, but it's completely ridiculous as a name.

I think of the movie Baby Mama with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. There's a part where they're specifically making fun of names parents use for their children these days, and a mother in a park calls for her children "Come on, we have a play date with Wingspan and Banjo!"

I agree with the writers of that movie, I think it is inherently bad.

My friend Bill who is cute is a guitar player and sometimes he plays banjo and I call him Banjo Bill. For that reason, I like the name Banjo. It sort of reminds me of Bodhi, which I also like as a guilty pleasure.

The only sibling for Banjo must be Matilda, since the Man from Snowy River doesn't have a name as far as I recall. Though Snowy and River might work ...

Banjo immediately makes me think of (besides the musical instrument) my grandparents dog they used to own. (Well now they are deceased) This dog did not like little kids and I have vivid memories of having to be actually carried inside the house by my mother, passed the garage and into the kitchen. Sometimes he was contempt and docile and other times, my mom had to rush me to the safety of the kitchen because he would nearly attack her to get to me as though I was such a threat.
As I became older, the dog of course left me alone but never thoroughly enjoyed my company. He was a grumpy dog that just flat out didn't enjoy the company of children. Though perhaps it was just me and my younger sister he wished to maul to death. (:

2: Don't have a middle name that would make Banjo seem less ridiculous and silly. Sorry
3: As a Human's name, I find it bluntly silly. So many names out there parents can choose from. If somebody's name was banjo, I wouldn't be able to take it seriously.

I think it's a great name for a dog, but for a kid I think it's silly. Though it's better than some boys names I've come across.

A parent would have to be committed to word names to use it, so I'd expect siblings to have other word names.
