[Games] LaRe's KUY Royal Congrats: Round 5
Welcome to round five! This round, the Monarch dies; please adjust your titles and line of succession accordingly.Optionally, your Consort may also have another child, gender and names of your choice, as long as it honours the late Monarch in some way.The Prompt
After more years of agonising waiting, war finally broke in the open when the opposing faction assayed a surprise attack. With the first move made, the war quickly escalated, and the situation remained hot for several years until finally, in one decisive move, it all ended. Your people won the war, but alas, the victory was pyrrhic and came with a heavy loss of life and property. But perhaps most troublingly, the final decisive action also claimed the life of their leader. The Monarch is dead. Long live the Monarch. How is the nation doing now that the war is finally won? How are the royal family reacting to the hefty price of victory? And who rules the land now -- is the line of succession to plow straight on despite the Crown Prince(ss) young age, or will a regent or council take the reins?Sign-Up: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/game/4638834

(Changed the prompt some and killed the consort instead as he'd be the one in battle, which meant no succession change but)Monarch: Beatrice Antonia Estelle [27]
Consort: Tarquin Alexius Tenley [29; deceased] Ward: Edmund Taggart [14]Crown Princess: Theodora Rosalind Valeria [9]
Prince: Hector Magnus Benedict [6]
Prince/Princess: Sebastian Antony Felix/Celia Isolde Anastasia [5]
Princess: Alexia Therese Luciana [nb]Of the illustrious Royal House of: Lyon
In the Kingdom of: YbernThe war has been a trying time for Ybern. Only the aid of their allies has kept them from being overwhelmed by the strength of their opponents. Yet tragically, the king was lost in the end. Beatrice had feared this might happen - Tarquin was bold and courageous but not overly cautious. Yet when the loss came in truth, she was devastated. This could be understood better when it became evident she was bearing one last of his children. After Alexia was born, Beatrice would scarcely leave her side, leaving much of the governing in the hands of the council - And they have much to do in the wake of the war.

Monarch: Breccan Nicasio Zevi Willem Augustus (50; deceased)
Consort: Kalila Savita Whimsy [Scipio] (47)Nephew: Tybalt Petros Uriah (23)
Daughter: Guinevere Ygraine Hyacinthe "Gwen" (19)
Monarch: Magnus Marek Idris "Max" (17)
Daughter: Sophronia Anastasia Florence "Sophie" (15) [Lysander's twin]
Son: Lysander Patrick Joachim (15) [Sophronia's twin]Of the illustrious Royal House of: Toril
In the Kingdom of: Sidonie--- The war raged on for fifteen years. Of course, it didn't start off as a war. It began slowly, building up over a period of almost twenty years. The first two, rumors of war were all there were. Rumors and slight discomfort. But things were still working out just fine. The following three, things seemed to have wound down. Tensions were still high but war was nowhere to be seen. Tensions continued running high for nearly five years before, out of practically nowhere, war erupted between the two states. War raged for five years after. Kalila and Breccan both fought from the start, leaving the children home with a nanny. Tybalt, eighteen at the start, entered the war early on as well. Gwen entered upon turning fifteen, the required age for all combatants. Max followed suit, entering on his fifteenth birthday as well. Sophronia and Lysander never faced the choice, because the day of their birthday tragedy struck. Sophie and Lysander were playing a celebratory game of tag through the throne room when Kalila burst through the doors, the body of her lifeless husband clutched to her chest. Falling to her knees, she dropped him in front of her awestruck children. Needless to say, "happy" was not a modifier thereafter used to describe the twins' birthday. Most celebrations were pushed to the day after starting with that. The crown was immediately passed on in a small ceremony that day. Guinevere, as the oldest biological child of Breccan, was set to become the next ruler, but she refused. She had her mother's adventurous streak and wished to explore the universe rather than settle down. So the title passed to seventeen-year-old Magnus Marek Idris. Kalila still sits as adviser, watching on, but Max reigns. He will be a great ruler. Whispers on the street say that he may even be one of the greats. At the very least, his story will go down in history: Magnus the Great, Magnus the Young, Magnus the Kind, Magnus the Wise, Magnus the Firm, etc. The people have already begun giving him titles.

King Simon Arthur William of Wales (d.)
Mary Eleanor the Queen Mother, of WalesThomas John Porter, Prince Regent of Wales
Princess Rose Elizabeth Catherine of Wales
Crown Prince Tristan Henry Alexander of Wales
Prince George William Francis and Princess Gwendolen Helena RosalindPolitical distrust and disagreement caused the war. Cornwall made a surprise midnight attack on Wales. This launched the two kingdoms into a decade long war, which resulted in a heavy loss of life and property. In the end, Wales came out strong, but took the hardest hit: the King had died in battle. The loss of King Simon meant there was to be a new king, a new monarch. But Prince Tristan, only 12, was too young to reign. His mother, Queen Mary, unable. Instead, the King's trusted right-hand man, and his first child, Thomas, was to become regent until Prince Tristan was old enough to reign as monarch.

Daughter: Queen Lovisa FREDRIKA Maria Theodora of Sweden
Son: Prince MAGNUS Vilhelm Gustaf Henrik of Sweden
Daughter/Son: Princess MARIANNE Carolina Märta Lucia of Sweden & Prince CARL JOACHIM Daniel Felix of SwedenOf the illustrious Royal House of: Bernadotte
In the Kingdom of: SwedenThe years of agonizing waiting came to an end when the Ribbings came with their final attack. The attack itself was rather meaningless, but it left devastating results, the Queen was dead, long life to the new Queen. While the kingdom and family mourned the death of beloved Lovisa, the fifteen year old Fredrika was expected to take over her late mother's duties. Still in school this was unfanthomable to the young lady, her family and the people. Therefore per her late mother's will Peter was established as the regent until his daughter will come of age.

In the Empire of: Lai ShiIn the wake of the devastating loss of the Empress, the entire Empire is in morning. They have won a decisive victory, but the cost feels far too high. But at least the children, especially Crown Princess Iris, are safe, though the Crown Princess is not yet of age, and the Empire is without a ruler. At the advice of the council of advisers, Gemina becomes Princess Regent, ruling in the Crown Princess' stead until she comes of age.

QuestionMy story takes place in an original world of mine. In one particular time the Southlands (the world's main realm and the location of Tavaraen) is ruled by the vampires. In the previous rounds I was setting up my story to have taken place just before this time. Continuing this theme would require Tavaraen losing the war. What should I do about this?

I say, do whatever you feel fits best with your story. If you want to change the prompts, follow it partially, or not at all, it's all right -- the story is all yours, and I'm sure it'll still be just as interesting to see an unorthodox choice in the storyline. You might have to play fast and loose with the prompts later on if you deviate far from it, though, but that's allowed, if you prefer it.

Round 5Past King: Airdan Blackfern (Deceased)
Regent: Soora WolfriverRankin Icefrost
Queen: Enola Wolffern
Crown Prince: Efren Blackriver
Prince and Princess: Ári Blackriver and Alaia WolffernOf the illustrious Royal House of: Ayen
In the Kingdom of: TavaraenIn the middle of the night, far to the north, the scouts became an army. More vampires had come over the mountains than had been scouting around Keenor and an attack was their plan all along. The attack was quick and unexpected. The northerners barely had time to fight back. It was no surprise to either side when they lost, but a few soldiers managed to escape the battle fields undetected and ride south to warn the others.Victory by victory the vampires worked their way down the Southlands. All the people of Odros, regardless of species, came together to fight the war. A few diplomatic water sprites were even convinced to drown any vampires who came near the rivers and lakes. Not everyone was well trained, most had had no warning until after the fightng started, but everyone at least tried. And it could have been successful. The effort was there even if the skill was not and the vampires were outnumbered. But they had an advantage that went beyond numbers or training. Their dead weren't dead. There are only a few ways to kill a vampire and the vast majority of vampires who "died" during the war were not killed in these ways. No matter how many vampires the others thought they killed there were always more. More than there should have been, more than they thought there would be. Or so it seemed. These supposedly extra and unaccounted for vampires were really the same ones who had been killed and had now come back to life.It wasn’t entirely a secret that the vampires were lmost impossible to kill, but not many people knew and it was easily forgotten in battle when the only thing anyone had time to focus on was not dying. By the time it was remembered it was too late. Too many had died, too many cities had fallen, the vampires were too close to victory. Not even knowing the most important fact about their enemy could save them.

Crown princess: Eira
Prince: Einar
Princess/Prince: Freya / IkerOf the illustrious Royal House of: Durin
In the Kingdom of: EreborIbûn is devastated. He will stay king, but it is hard for him. Vígdís is by his side (so much so that he gives her the title of queen, even though they are not married), as are the children, but life is hard. Not only does he have to deal with his own loss, the mountain is struggling trying to get back on track with everything, too. In addition, rumours have started to leak about Tyr, who has been seen outside the royal quarters during the turmoil of the war. Now that the king is dead, those that already knew about Tyr have started to spread the word, since they can't deface the king's reputation and thereby ruin his life anymore.

Princess/Prince: Eirene Ariadne Flavia Sofia / Erasmos Ari George Callistus
Prince: Nicolas Finnikin Achilles Raffaele
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Romelli
In the Kingdom of: GretaliaWar finally broke out. It was some tough years, but victory was finally won. Some says it's because Nicolas was a true leader - and his name actually means "victory of the people". The victory had a high price though, as King Nicolas tragically got kid only days after finding out that Queen Katerina was expecting again.
When Katerina found out that it was a boy, she decided to name him Nicolas after her late husband. It was a bit controversial, and not everyone likes it. She wanted to honor her husband, and couldn't find a better way to do it. Prince Nicolas is known as Nico within the family though. And as the King passed away, Leonardo took over the throne. He is still very young to be a King, and because of that he has some help from his mother and trusted men.

In the City-State of: Salvi
Tellino attacked. It took them two more years to get there, but when they finally mounted their attack, they spared no expenses and waged a full-scale war against Salvi. Fortunately, the people had had plenty of time to prepare against an assault, and with Vico's extensive network of mercenaries to aid their side, the city withstood their brunt of the attack. The war was, more or less, evenly fought. This proved to be a problem more than anything, because this meant that neither side achieved decisive victory over the other, and both sides continually attempted to one-up the other. The war raged on for a year and a half, escalating with every battle and every bout. With the war taking most of his attention, Michele relegated the city's more civil matters to his wife; Caterina was hesitant at first, but Michele reassured her regarding her ability in the matter, citing her shrewdness and acuity of mind to be the reason she first caught his eye, those many years ago, and she eventually agreed. At last, it all came down to one final siege, as the forces of Salvi managed to corner Tellino until their opponents fled into the safety of their city walls. Michele called for his war council--consisting of himself; his brother Vico; condottieri Giacomo Grazia, Arrigo Ratti, and Marco di'Marchesi; and advisor and former Tellino citizeness, Elisabetta Scierra. As is habitual, Perotto listened in to the council, remaining at the sidelines to observe and learn. But what he never expected to observe was how his father rasped and trembled as he spoke, every breath a shudder and a thin film of perspiration coating his brow. After only the shortest of meetings, Michele abruptly retired to his tent, barring everyone save his brother and his son from entering.
