I guess most people won't know the word anymore if your in the US, but its a little silly as a given name. As a nickname its cute and you've got a built-in lullaby but I don't think it works as a name. I'm pretty sure its a nickname in the Christie story too, though its been years since I've read it.

I'm in the US and I know what it means. Actually, my entire family and most of my friends know what it means as well. We're not all dumb over here. :)
