Funny, I just passed a "Mildred Street" the other day and it got me thinking.
I had to think about it for a second though... my gut reaction was "ew mildew", but then I softened and though it sounded kind of sweet. "Mil" is a nice sound and I like the sharpness of "drid". It's spunky. I think the general public seems to settle on that initial "ew" reaction, though.
I also like the nickname Millie.
ETA: Wow, just looked up the meaning too and "gentle strength" is about as accurate as I can get with my feelings on Mildred.
