[Opinions] Sugar
Ever seen "Some Like It Hot"? I was thinking about Marilyn Monroe's character and wondered what people would think if they encountered a girl named Sugar in real life. Would you laugh? Would you think her parents were idiots? Just curious.* The Poster Formerly Known As Billina *

Yep, Sugar is stupid. Unless I saw it on something official, I'd assume it was a nickname because it's that bad. There are two little girls, sisters, in my son's school named Darling and Honey. Bleh. I do wonder what on earth their parents were thinking.

I would obviously not laugh and say "What a silly name", but I sure would think that. Sugar sounds like a stripper.

It's a lil bit ghetto. But I kind of like it

My mom grew up with a guy named Sugar. He went by Shuggy. There was a character named Sugar Motta on Glee. I thought she was annoying.I wouldn't laugh, but if it was someone I was going to be talking to a lot, I'd probably call them by their last name or come up with a nn for them, because I think I'd feel a little uncomfortable calling someone Sugar.

Think, shmink - I'd know for certain her parents were idiots.Which is encouraging, because a lot of people here in South Africa - make that Southern Africa and for aught I know the whole Anglophone continent - use dictionary words as names quite routinely, and I've never seen or heard of a Sugar. Psychology, yes; Radio, yes; Wiseman, yes.Your new username is cute and all that, but to me you'll always be rising in a flattened state from beneath a prowling pachyderm.

I've seen Beauty, Gospel, Goodness, Forgive, and Gift on children from Southern Africa.

I wouldn't laugh in their face, but as soon as they were out of earshot I'd have a good chuckle. Sugar is ridiculous. Of course I don't judge people for their stupid names, I judge the hell out of their parents though. Sugar seems most appropriate for a miniature horse. Dunno why.

I'd think her parents hadn't given much thought to what makes a good name that people won't judge you for.I thought in Some Like It Hot it was possibly not the character's real name, more of a stage name.

I believe it was, but everyone called her Sugar. I just wondered what peoples' reactions would be if it was a real name.

I wouldn't laugh, except inside or privately, but I would think either her parents were idiots or she was trashy and using a street nickname.

I wouldn't laugh, but I would wonder what her parents had been thinking. I always find terms of endearment weird when used as names. (I know a woman named Honey and everyone sounded overly familiar when speaking to her). It's also just not an appealing sound, or a compelling meaning for that matter. It can always be worse though!
