[Opinions] Horatio
I have Shakespeare on the brain again. Thoughts? How would you use Horatio if you had to?Much obliged!

I sorta like the Italian Orazio, so if I had to use Horatio, I'd push for that variant. Horatio just sounds goofy to me, or maybe goofy with a side of nasty because of the whole "whore ratio" thing. If Orazio was not an option, I'd stick Horatio behind a couple staid, classic names, like William Edgar Horatio.

Probably my all-time favorite nameI was a small child when Horatio Hornblower was on TV, and the name stuck with me then. Now, I'm a fan of the series, but I'd also use Horatio Nelson, Horatius Cocles, and maybe Horatio Gates or Horace (born Horatio) Walpole as namesakes. I do intend to use it for my firstborn son one day...haven't thought much about middle names though. William? Arthur? Thomas? Ajax?

I'd use it as a MN if I had to. Don't care for it. At least it goes with a lot of FNs, flow-wise.

You'd have to be a whole lot posher than me to carry it off. But I've always loved it in a Nelson's Navy kind of way. And it really shows up Horace for the failed attempt it is. What about Horatio and Marinus as a sibset?

I love it. But, it's a bit much for myself as a first name personally. I adore it as a middle name. I've always loved the combo Bram Horatio.

Makes me think of Horatio Hornblower, with the pretty face of Ioan Gruffudd. It seems Victorian/Edwardian twee. Not a great baby name. Maybe a nifty middle name though!

Unfortunately Horatio is a name I've always found very unappealing. I can't even put it in the category of "I can understand why other people like it", because I truly don't. It's comically clunky and the hor- beginning is like a strong unwelcome whisper. Sorry sorry. Same goes for Horace and Ignatius. That being said, the combo Thomas Horatio just came to mind and it isn't bad. I think I'd pair it with another classic Saint name.James Horatio
Joseph Horatio
Peter Horatio
Marcus Horatio

I would not use Horatio. Honestly I'm always very surprised at how well it is received here because I only hear "whore ratio".

YESHoratio = whore ratio. I think it's just awful.

I love Horatio, a lot. As in one of my absolute favourite names ever sort of love. It's so handsome and dashing, but playful and boyish too (in my mind anyway). I have Horatio Albert Darcy as my combo, although I did originally have it as a middle for Nikolai (Nikolai Horatio Emrys). I feel like the pretentious card gets pulled quite a bit with Horatio, but who cares? It's a great name :).

Sure, if I had to. The -ratio part reminds me of math (maybe this is weird, but I generally like names that remind me of math), and I sort of like the meaning/origin.

James Horatio IV. I think you would need to skip to IV, just cuz.

...what?

You know, if you mis-read it as Horaito, it kind of does seem Japanese.
