I think Miles is a bit of stretch. Since I don't like Maximilian, I'd prefer to call him Ian.

Incredibly forced, Miles is a well established name on it's own so it would be very bizarre to hear it was a nickname for something else, especially since Maximilian doesn't even make the same sound.

I agree with the others that Miles doesn't feel organic coming from Maximilian. Also, because Maximilian is such a long name, there's more of a likelihood that it will get shortened to Max.

I don't get the connection at all? I know Maximilian has "mil" in the middle, but that's way too much of a stretch! It's not even a long "i" sound. Use Maximilian as a middle name and he won't get called Max, because that will be inevitable!

I think Maximilian is a beautiful name, and I would prefer to use it. As nn I would rather use Maxi, I don't think Miles fit.. But that is my opinion, you do what you want to.

Nope. It's too far of a stretch. I like Lian though as a nn if Max doesn't work.

Sorry, but it doesn't work. There is no plausible way to get Miles as a nn for Maximilian. Maybe you could keep Maximilian as the mn instead, then it doesn't need to be shortened to Max, but you still get to use it.
