[Opinions] Shailene
A lot of people are saying lene/leen names are dated but is this still usable? I think now it would work fine but as usual I want your opinions. Also which spelling do you prefer. I think mine's Shealeen even though that looks weird.

I'm sorry but Shailene sounds like a troubled youth who is going to get herself into drug problems before her short stint in jail and her untimely death when she is murdered by her baby daddy's ex-girlfriend.

I've known two Shaleen people, and they must be close to retirement. I can't think why it wouldn't work - just about anything goes - but when I saw Shaleen I guessed it would sound like Charlene, which it didn't. I'd choose Shaeleen or Shaelene if I had to.

I really don't like it, but I don't know that I'd say it's dated... I'd say it's more like a stereotypical hillbilly name. Minus the actress Shailene Woodley, all the Shailenes I know (and I surprisingly know a few!) are anywhere from 12-40s and come from very similar backgrounds. Actually, I don't know that hillbilly is quite the right word. I can't think of any other way to say it than maybe chavvy? Anyway, I don't like a lot of the Shaileens I know so the name has bad connotations for me. I do like the nn Shay though, that's cute. And I do think that 'leen' names in general do tend to come across as dated, very 60s/70s mostly, but there are some "kind of" exceptions like Shailene, Kathleen, Aileen, and maybe Colleen.

Its the name of Shailene Woody, right? I think in that aspect its usable but if it weren't her name it would be totally dated. I think Shai/Shay is a bit fresher and less dated.
