[Opinions] Audrey & Ethel
I just realized today that Audrey and Ethel both come from the Anglo-Saxon name Æðelþryð. Could Audrey be used to honor Ethel?

I think it could, and that's a nice realisation!
I don't see the point in honoring if the world can't tell you are, so I say no.
Since they mean the same thing I'd say yes.
Seriously?
No, they are not honoring each other in this universe.

agree
I don't think so. The names are related, but they're like distant cousins. It'd be reaching.
Also, there is a broken italics tag in your signature, it's making everything on the page italics.

not really
Unless the Ethel you wanted to commemorate had the middle name Audrey. It's just too big a stretch for all practical purposes, and frankly, if somebody told me "My daughter is named Audrey to honor great-Aunt Ethel, because they're from the same Anglo-Saxon root" I'd think 1. What a know-it-all showoff. and 2. Don't feel the need to justify using Audrey. Just give it to her and don't try to spin it. and 3. If you really are that determined to honor great-Aunt Ethel, give the poor child Ethel as a middle name that she can try and keep hidden from everybody.

Well, it's an "honoring" that would go completely unnoticed by everyone. If you don't care that no one would recognize that little Audrey was named for great-aunt Ethel or that you would need to explain it to everyone, then I guess it works (ish). Since those are now completely separate names, despite having the same root, nowadays, I wouldn't necessarily feel it a big honor if I were great-aunt Ethel.
You could use it as a sort-of secret nod I think. A private honoring. The think though is far from obvious and seems a terrible stretch to me.
Hi !!!
Audrey and Ethel are both beautiful names with a long usage and a fantastic meaning...
Unfortunately I think that now people generally can't link these names between each other...
But if you know that link you can give a name instead of that...sure XD
Ohhh...I don't know if my answer is written right in English...can you help me?
