[Opinions] Elise?
My husband recently told me that he likes the name Elise. I hate that it comes from Elizabeth; a name that I detest to the ends of my soul. I once liked Elise myself but I fell out of love with it.
So what is your take on Elise?
1. Do you like the name overall?
2. Please rate the name on a scale of 1-5; where 1= awful and 5= fantastic.
3. Would you consider using it in real life?
4. What would you pair it with?
5. Any other thoughts/comments about Elise?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm stuck on Audrey and Clara and I have been for quite a while.
1. Does Audrey Elise sound ok?
2. What about Clara Elise?
Thanks!

I've only had good experiences of Elise, but I do find Elize preferable as it stops people from saying eLEESS. I'd rate it a 3; good, but not good enough for me to use.
The two Elise people I know best: Elise, short for Elisabeth, and Elize, not short for anything, mn Antoinette.
Audrey Elise sounds fine, but I find Audrey very down-market depressing. Clara Elise is a little hard to say, as the -a and the E- run together, but it isn't often that both names are said out loud, so it isn't a problem.

1) I don't particularly like it, because it sounds preppy to me (and in a way that Elizabeth does not).
2) 2.75
3) No, I'd never use it in real life.
4) I dunno. Elise Antonia? Elise Wilhelmina? Elise Penelope? Elise Tzipora? Elise Rosamund? Elise Giovanna?
5) Other thoughts/comments:
Despite not liking it overall, I think it strikes a balance between traditional and modern. It's short and sweet without being overwhelmingly boring or trendy.
...and on a scale of 1-5, I'd rate...
Audrey Elise: 2.5
Clara Elise: 3

Good point about the balance. I'm curious how you preceive Elizabeth. To me, it's pretentious.
I like the name Elise ... on paper, and for a character.
But used in real life, my impression of it is that it sounds super stuckup. It sounds like the word "elite," has the same smugness that Emily has, and the same bossy quality Lisa has. IMHO. I was dismayed to discover I felt that way about it, when I met a young Elise. And she was nice ... I just didn't like the way the name came across. It's a fine name, just nmsaa.
rating; 2.5
Audrey Elise and Clara Elise both sound fine, but Audrey is my preference.

I don't feel quite that bad about Elizabeth. The full name Elizabeth is maybe about as stuckup as Elise, and it's not pretty at all IMO, but it isn't quite as grating as Elise... maybe because I've never met an Elizabeth who used it as her everyday name, and didn't go by Ellie or Liz or Beth. (I like Liz.) Elizabeth has never appealed to me very much though - I'm not surprised that someone hates it. I think the nicknames redeem its use as a full name, rather than being contaminated by their derivation from it.
1. Do you like the name overall?
* Yes-- it's quite lovely.
2. Please rate the name on a scale of 1-5; where 1= awful and 5= fantastic.
* 3 or 4
3. Would you consider using it in real life?
* Maybe as a middle name. Americans tend to pronounce it uh-LEES instead of el-EES, which isn't as pretty.
4. What would you pair it with?
* Claire Elise
* Elise Manon
5. Any other thoughts/comments about Elise?
* A little girl in my sister's class is named Elise. She is seven years old, and her parents are German-American Jews. She's the only Elise I know personally, and I think its nice her mom and dad chose to honor their heritage in her name instead of just choosing something popular :^P
Audrey Elise sounds perfectly sweet-- very classic. Clara Elise is very close to my combo, haha! I like them both.

Elise is popular? I've met one Elise as well, it was years ago. Since it's not a name that is common in my area, I'm not sure how my fellow Americans pronounce it.
Even if we were to limit our names to our ancestry, we could chose between so many to honor.
Me: Irish, German, English, French, Belgian, Swiss, Dutch, Scottish, Welsh, and Swedish, and possibly Spanish.
Him: Native American, Irish, English, German, and French.

1. Do you like the name overall? - I do.
2. Please rate the name on a scale of 1-5; where 1= awful and 5= fantastic. - 4
3. Would you consider using it in real life? - Well, it's my name, so no.
4. What would you pair it with? - I prefer it in the fn position generally. I think Clara Elise has an odd flow. I'd prefer Elise Audrey
5. Any other thoughts/comments about Elise? - It's a good name to have. I think it ages well, I get complimented on it a lot and it has some nickname options but it doesn't automatically get a nickname like other names. I like the connection to Fur Elise as well. The only downside to it really is that you do need to spell it to people because of all the spelling variations around. That being said, it isn't really an inconvenience at all.

My name is French and no one can seem to spell it correctly so I'm definitely used to that. People also never get my last name right so it's second nature to spell it. I'm usually not a fan of nicknames anyway. They seem lazy to me.

I really like Elise, even though I also hate that it comes from Elizabeth (I have to say I admire the extent of your loathing for that name). I mostly like Elise because of its connection to Für Elise.
1. Yes I like the name overall.
2. 3.5/5
3. No, at least definitely not as a first name.
4. One of my first thoughts for this was Clara, before I read further down your post! Also Lucy, Camilla, Margot, Lydia, Claudia, Viola, Juliet.
5. I often switch between liking Elise or Elsie more. I enjoy that they're anagrams.
Both Audrey Elise and Clara Elise sound very nice, but Clara Elise is much better.

Thanks! I find it interesting that you mentioned Lucy because I had considered that too. Also strangely enough I have a friend named Margo.
Haha why do you detest Elizabeth to the ends of your soul??
1. Elise is beautiful. People use this word a lot but I think Elise truly is timeless, and I think it's sadly underused in the first name spot. I think of Beethoven and sparkly wintertime.
2. 4.5
3. I would consider it. There are other names I like more, but I could see it.
4. Elise Eugenia
I prefer Audrey Elise to Clara Elise, but I find both a bit twee and don't really do Elise justice.
ETA: I know a Zoey Elyse and although I'm not a fan of Zoey I always thought it was a nice sounding/looking combo.

I like Elise. It's an okay first name, for me it feels a bit flimsy and of course the chance of 'Ellie' nickname. But I like it best as a middle. I'd give it a 3. My favorite Elise name would be Juniper Elise. I also have a character named Elise Anastasia which I think is nice. I didn't come up with my combo, my friend did but I like it enough.
Audrey Elise and Clara Elise are okay. Neither of them really stand out to me. I think Elise needs something a little more exciting to pair with or it starts to suffer from filler syndrome, at least as a middle.

Eek, Ellie sounds like livestock to me. I'm not fond of nicknames either. I like Juniper but I know my husband would detest that. Not to mention, who is really going to take Juniper seriously on a resume? (as this would be for a real child) Where I live, Audrey and Clara aren't common so I think they'd stand out more for my purposes.
Some good points though. Thanks!

Hi !!!!
I don't like very much Elise...
I dislike variants of Elizabeth too.
I rate it..2.
It it bad but not the worst that I heard.
It is used in real life, yes.
But I heard it only on tv because in Italy the variant is Elisa (eh-LEE-zah).
A combo with Elise?
Elise Maia
Elise Kaye
Elise Rosette
Elise Fanny
Audrey Elise? Yes...could be ok!
I like Audrey very much and Elise is only a middle name so it isn't so bad.
Clara Elise...very very bad I'm sorry.
It seems a only name "Clarelise" because Clara ends with A and Elise starts with E also a vowel...no!
What about Elise Claire?
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Thanks! I couldn't go with the Italian way. Just don't like the sound.
