My first name is Gaetana. I was told as a child (from Italian
heritage) that the name Gaetana is the feminine version of Gaetano
which translated to "Thomas" in Italian. I was also told that there was no translation for the feminine version (i.e., it was NOT Thomasina.). I learned of the town of Gaeta a few years ago while doing a genealogy. I assumed the origin of the name and the town were somehow related. The deeper meaning (a pit where people were
executed) gave me goosebumps but was interesting. I appreciated the person who typed the name gaetana phonetically... this is the true
Italian way of pronunciation but few people know it. Thanks for the info on my name!
