but with the spelling Madeline, I believe most people will in fact say MAD-uh-line (long i), just like you want them to.

Yeah, that's what I heard.

I think it's just like Ca-ri-BE-an or Ca-RI-be-an. It doesn't really matter, it's whichever pronounciation you like better.
