[Opinions] Author?
I just came across the name "Author" on a list of names having to do with writing... and wow!
For some reason I think it's really, really beautiful. I kind of liked Arthur, but this just seems like a fun, modern-yet-sophisticated tweak to it. Not to forget I love books. I normally don't really go for word-names except for GP's, but for some reason I can really see this name actually being given.
So, what do you guys think of Author for a boy?
Edit: I don't necessarily mean I intend to give it myself, I'm more curious what you think of the idea of a boy named this :P.

* Alexander ~ Eirian ~ Dante ~ Roan ~ Zeno *

I'd assume it was a spelling pronunciation, intended to represent Arthur. And I'd feel sorry for the child and all the explaining he'd have to do.
An old lady I once knew said that one of her pupils was named Yvonne and firmly believed that it was Why-Vonny. The assumption was that her mother had probably read a novel or a love story in a magazine, found the name exotic and appealing, and never imagined what it might really sound like. That would be my reasoning if I met an Author.
Where I live, some regional accents actually do make Arthur sound like Author. I lived next door to an Arthur once whose mother used to yell at him all day: Auth! Auth!

It's a dull sounding word imo.
Sorry, but I don't like it. I think everyone would think he just couldn't pronounce Arthur.
My friend's son used to come home from nursery with this written on his paintings a lot. His name is Arthur. Which I prefer, for the same reasons most people have given already.
Nope. I'm an aspiring author myself, and I'm a girl, so...
I'm not in favor. I think it sounds bad. I don't like Arthur, but it's miles better than Author. Author is also bad for all the same reasons Poet, Painter, and Artisan are bad.
I think it works and I prefer it to Arthur, which I've never been fond of.
Obviously you haven't heard people say arthritis as authoritis.
Or mispronounce Arthur as author.
Bad move.

no, it's a title or profession. It's too descriptive and it pigeon-holes the bearer. What if they don't like writing? It would be an awkward name to have if he isn't an author, because people would constantly be assuming he is (and that his real name is something else).
As a mn, anythong goes, so I suppose it would be fine there.

I like Author a lot too. As you said, it is beautiful and has a deep, haunting, serious quality that I really like.
However I do think this is one name that would be hard to bear. It's got a lot of expectation and pressure attached to it. What if Author has learning difficulties or hates reading/writing? I suppose you could say it's in reference to how he's the "author of his own life/destiny".
Although I guess he could go by Thor...
