I can tell you that Kallan is NOT used in Sweden, I've never heard it here. Källan is not a surname, but Käll is found. I don't know if it's derived from the word källa (pr. CHEL-luh), but it's true that källa means "source; spring" (stream would rather be bäck in Swedish) and källan means "the spring; the source".
