[Opinions] Elizabeth
Elizabeth has been playing around in my mind recently. I've always dismissed it as kind of boring, but now I'm thinking it might just be subtle and understated. Especially using Beth as a nickname.
What do you think? Is it too overdone? What middle name might spunk it up a bit? And what's your preferred nickname?

I like Elizabeth well enough, however, I like the nns much more and would consider Elizabeth as the full name. Beth has a genuine sweetness to it that I find very appealing. Other nns I like: Bess, Betsy, Ellie, Libby, and Lily. For the Elisabeth spelling, I like the nns Lisette, Liese / Lise, Elise, and Elsa.
My fave Elizabeth combos are Elizabeth Juliet, Elizabeth Joy, Elizabeth Marigold, and Elizabeth Eve.

An absolute favourite.
My cousin's name, she is always called Beth. (Her husband calls her Bethie.)

I like Elizabeth, but I don't like many of the nicknames that go along with it, including Beth. Beth is just so...homely and timid. And, considering the fallback nicknames (i.e. the nicknames strangers will go straight for) for Elizabeth are my least favorite, Beth and Liz, I tend to steer clear of it as a first name.
I think it gets "spunky" with the middles of Elizabeth Ophelia, Elizabeth Vesper, or Elizabeth Viridiana. If I want to go classic but still cool I would go with Elizabeth Virginia, Elizabeth Thomasina, or Elizabeth Margot.
My favorite nicknames are Eliza, Elsa, Zella, Ella and Lillie.

I love Elizabeth, it's regal and yet somehow understated. My favourite nickname is Betsy, but I also love that it's so versatile. There are so many different nicknames that could fit so many different types of women.
Some spunk it up middle name ideas:
Elizabeth Alastriona
Elizabeth Artemisia
Elizabeth Apollonia
Elizabeth Clementine
Elizabeth Celestina
Elizabeth Demetria
Elizabeth Fidelma
Elizabeth Hermione
Elizabeth Jocasta
Elizabeth Olympia
Elizabeth Thaddea
Elizabeth Ursula
Elizabeth Xanthe
Elizabeth Zenobia
I’m apparently in a frilly mood.

I think Elizabeth is a classic, so it is eternally popupar and probably a bit overdone, but that doesn't mean it's a wonderful name. It's strong and I love being able to go all out on middles since it's so normal. I recently changed my combo to Elizabeth Hestia Wildrose and Elizabeth Tempest (plus another middle) was another option. I love a lot of nicknames and diminutives of Elizabeth, but Elsie, Liza/Eliza, and Libby are my favourites.
I have always really liked Elizabeth and Beth would be a cute and unexpected nn. I don't think it's overdone for young girls these days, especially here in Australia. I also love the nn's Lizzie, Elsie and Bessie. Combos I like are:
Elizabeth Posy / Posie
Elizabeth Blossom
Elizabeth Juniper
Elizabeth Rosemary / Rosalie
Elizabeth Willow
Elizabeth Zara
Elizabeth Celeste
Elizabeth Cleo
Elizabeth Indigo
Elizabeth Ivy
Elizabeth Yasmin
Elizabeth Tess / Tessa
Elizabeth Phoebe

Beth is okay in a mild sort of way, but Elizabeth is dull as dishwater. Yawn.
Liz is my favorite nn for it; Liz is fun.

I adore the name Elizabeth. I think it's one of the most beautiful names out there. I prefer the nicknames Eliza or Lizzie (and Betsy even though I wouldn't use it), but Beth is nice and underused. I associate it with Beth from Little Women, which is a sad association with me, so I've never really liked it. Beths always seem sickly to me.
Anyway, I know someone named Elisabeth Antonia, which I think is beautiful (even though I prefer the z).
I love:
Elizabeth Louisa
Elizabeth Frances
Elizabeth Diana
Elizabeth Helen
Elizabeth Martha
Elizabeth Rebecca
Elizabeth Susannah

Elizabeth is nice. I don't love it, but it's classic and does have so many nickname options that it works through different time periods and still feels fresh and that's cool. Beth is sweet and pretty. My favorite nns are Libby and Bess. I love Bess way more than Beth, but I do wonder how well it would play in actual use today. I also knew a "Zab". She was dating Bennett called "Nett".
Elizabeth Jules
Elizabeth Juniper

Elizabeth Dagny

I love Elizabeth. It's my middle name and the middle name of my daughter. Unfortunately it's also the name of my sister-in-law and a close cousin, so I couldn't really use it as a first name. I often wish I had - I would have loved an Elizabeth Mae. (My daughter is Miriam Elizabeth Mae)
I do like the nickname of Beth, but my favorite nn is Lizzy. It's just sweet.
Elizabeth Mae is my type choice.
Also:
Elizabeth Juliette
Elizabeth Therese
Elizabeth Marguerite

I feel very inconsistent saying that Elizabeth is not boring, because I constantly say that Mary and Jane are boring from centuries of overuse, and Elizabeth has to rival them in that, but for some reason Elizabeth, like Katherine, does not seem boring or overdone to me.
My preferred nickname these days is Betty. I think it's cute and it has a colonial flair.

Yes yes! I think Elizabeth is quite bright and upbeat, and I looove Beth. If we were having another girl it would be tied at the top of my list.
I don't find it overdone at all. Elizabeths go by such a variety of nicknames, you can tailor it many ways. The majority my age go by Liz, but heck, a tiny Liz would be very welcome too!

I know an Elizabeth nn Beth. She's rarely called by her full name but the few times she has, I'm kind of like "That's very stately and classy. Hmm, do I like it?"
I also dismissed it for the same reasons but its grown on me. I like Elizabeth Rose, Elizabeth Jane and Elizabeth Clare the most -- but they're not that spunky ;)
This may sound weird but...I really like it when it's pronounced with a long e, like ē-liz-a-beth...but I often hear people say ə-liz-a-beth, which is kinda blah to me.

I love Elizabeth. True, it's not flashy and new. But it's got so, so many wonderful associations that my mind can play around with. And it sounds glorious.
My favorite nicknames: Elsie, Lizzy / Lizzie, Lilibet, Libby, Lee
Elizabeth Jonquil
Elizabeth St. Ives
Elizabeth Anne
Elizabeth Nightingale
Elizabeth Caroline / Charlotte
Elizabeth Winter -- after "the Winter Queen"
Elizabeth Maud
Elizabeth Sparrow
Elizabeth Freya
Elizabeth Sonnet -- E. Barrett Browning reference
Elizabeth Mavis
Elizabeth Opal
Elizabeth Gwen
Elizabeth Jane -- not original, but solid as a brick house and counter-intuitive when you think of trends today
Elizabeth Valentine
Elizabeth Celia
Elizabeth Rowan
Elizabeth Miranda
Elizabeth Plum
