It's a big stretch to use Maude as short for Matilda, because Maude in itself is a shortened version of another name, magdalene.
I really hate Matilda, but even Matilda is not as ugly as Maude.

Because you mentioned Matilda, and Rox was giving her opinion on that name, as well.
