[Opinions] Evan vs Brendan
Baby 4! As usual, stuck between two names. We have some Welsh, thus Evan. I like this name very much, it feels fresh to me, not too strong, not too out there, hits a sweet spot. I don't know any Evans. However, when the baby came out, I thought, upon seeing just the back of his dark little head.... "Ooh! Brendan". Always a name I liked BUT I have very negative association with this name via extended family whom are basically toxic, estranged and hateful. Brendan has a very negative association for me, but is balanced with liking the name enough to overcome the history and write my own...Do I use Evan, which is Welsh, free from all negativity and a bit fresher than Brendan,orDo I go with Brendan, even if it is used by the family already and I have negative connotations which I know will fade over time? Brendan also flows better with last name. His due date was on St Brendan's feast day, too!Last name rhymes with Bunt, begins with "H".Evan (H)unt
or
Brendan (H)untAs always, many thanks!

Have always loved Evan myself. Nice and simple and works for all ages I thinkBut Brendan is a lovely name, if you can overcome your negativity to it go for it.

I personally like Brendan more, but if you feel like the family will have a hard time getting over it, and you like both names, I guess go with Evan. Although, I think that everyone will be so thrilled with the new baby that negative associations would fade fast.

I think Evan is lovely and doesn't have any negative connotations, so it seems like the obvious choice to me!I've never been a big fan of Brendan.

It sounds like Evan is the name you should stick with.Although if the baby wasn't born yet I'd be pushing Brendan because it's handsome and understated and Evan is so much more common (in the US, anyway, not sure where you are). I know so many little Evans amongst my friends that even though it's a family name for me going back generations and centuries I nixed it for our new little boy!

If you love Brendan, then go for it. Your Brendan will eliminate any negative feelings about the name anyway. Either name is nice though.

Brendan Evans (H)unt would do it for me! I much prefer Brendan to Evan, though I have got personal reasons for both. And you will be writing your own history by using it, not to mention that your Brendan is unlikely to know Extended Brendan so there'd be no issues there.

Right now Evan is my number one boy name so I say Evan!
