What do you think of Alain for a boy? I pronounce it similar to "Ah-lawwn", and it has really grown on me, so I'm curious about what other people think of it.

I kinda like it. There's a character named Alain in the most recent season of the Pokemon anime. Really cool character.

The pronunciation is definitely going to be an issue unless you live in a French-speaking country.

That's actually how I discovered the name. I wasn't sure about his name at first, but after watching several episodes, it has really grown on me.

Yeah, pronunciation seems like it could become a problem, especially since I'm not sure now if I (and the character) am even pronouncing the name correctly.

Just drop the i, and all those pesky pronunciation problems will magically disappear.

Unless, of course, you actually are French. If not ... Alan is a beautiful name.

Alan is a nice name, but I have a uncle named that who is disliked by most of my family, so that's not a option. I'm not planning on using Alain because of the similarity, but I'm still curious about what other people think of it.

I knew a guy with this name and every time I saw him he had to correct my pronunciation because I kept saying it wrong! He pronounces it Uh-LEHN.
