Love it as a boys name, not so much as a girls

I have a 6 year old DS with this name, so I LOVE it! It was the name I had picked out for a future DS since I was about 15/16 years old.ETA: NEVER for a girl, no, no, no! Absolutely a masculine name imo.

I always thought if I had a son I'd call him Jasper. But it's suddenly become quite popular here and as two of my friends already have little Jaspers I probably prefer Caspar now. As for naming a girl - just no!

I like it very much for a boy. I once met a Dutch guy called Jasper who was very nice.
For a girl I don't like it, but I do like Jasperine. I prefer it with the stress on the last syllable, or with the last e pronounced (jas-per-EEN-eh), because otherwise it sounds too much like aspirin.
In Swedish the gem is called jaspis (yuss-pis), but I think it sounds like "just p*ss".

I quite like Jasper. It comes across as intellectual, and level headed, which I like. I can see it catching on, if it hasn't already. I prefer it for a boy.

I certainly like it! One of my main characters is named Jasper, and it suits him quite well! I like on both male and females, though I prefer it on males ever so slighty! Also I got the name Jasper from Steven Universe, with that Jasper being female, though technically agandered!

I dislike it for a boy and really dislike it for a girl. It sounds so harsh to me, and I picture a caricature of a toothless hillbilly with dirty bib overalls and a jug of moonshine.

I used to love it! I still like the idea of it, but over the years I've come to see it as one of the most pretentious names out there. I wish Casper wasn't associated with the ghost because I actually like that better.

I really dislike it, intensely. It sounds slimy and evil to me. Totally can't picture it on a girl.

I'm probably in the minority hereBut I prefer Jasper on a girl. Also like Ina tagged onto the end Jasperina! Then again I am a fan of the old Scottish trend of feminising boys names

I prefer Jasper on a girl as well.

I prefer Jasper for a boy, myself. That being said, Jasperina is an interesting idea and would be a nice alternative to Jasperine.

I'm hearing more and more people wanting to use Jasper on girls. *sigh*

I can see this name for either gender, however, the name is vaguely known to me from for a male character from an older TV Show (I think) - probably viewed while extremely young, as I have difficulty remembering the source. I enjoy the softness of the "sper" suffix. I am happy with a soft or harsh J.

On a villain in a Victorian melodrama, twirling his moustaches and sniggering - absolutely brilliant! On a child, or any perfectly ordinary person actually - probably too much to live up to. Likely to acquire Jazz as a nn.On a girl? Really? Just because it's a gemstone, I suppose. Seems horrible!

My Jasper is such a Jasper! The name suits him so well, because he's very outgoing and quirky and a real individual. We called him Jazz once, when he was still in the womb! Never again after that, it just didn't fit!

I love your Victorian villain! I know 3 Jaspers, 1 grown up and 2 little boys. Depressingly not one of them is villainous, but luckily they are none of them known as Jazz.

Our cat is Jazz. I once had a vet call him Jaspy and it made me insane.

Haha! Absolutely! When I first came to BtN people here were all over the name Jasper. It was a trend here for a little while. All I could think about was Horace and Jasper from 101 Dalmatians.

I think of my annoying, neurotic, wedge-shaped cat. No offense to anyone who would use it - and has used it - but it's a great name for a cat, not so much a human.
