Maybe it has to do with regional accents, but I've only ever heard Tania / Tanya / Tonya pronounced as TAHN-yuh (so, like "John"). It's nice, but also feels very 1970s.
Honestly, I don't think I like Tanya with a short-A. Sounds like she wants to tan someone's hide.
