Four years after their wedding, Emme and Annemarie are still traveling. They write back to the family often, detailing their adventures and enthusing about the fascinating cultures they're experiencing, Skype at holidays and birthdays, and send pictures constantly, but the family is still feeling their loss.
Tris especially has been having a hard time adjusting. He and Emme have been so close for so long that the distance was completely foreign to him. In a downward spiral, he started drinking and going to parties more and eventually progressed to drugs. He driving while high last year and crashed into a tree, barely escaping with his life. When he was drug tested he failed miserably and he was arrested. He's begun treatment for depression and focused on ending his drug problem while in state custody. Although his family would definitely prefer none of this had happened, they're at least grateful for his recovery and have hopes that he'll never go down such a dark road ever again.
Fiona also has had a lot go on in the last few years. She was temporarily dating a young man who works at the coffee shop when she accidentally got pregnant. When she learned about the pregnancy she rushed to find the father, Spencer, and tell him; they were broken up at the time. As soon as he heard, Spencer proposed. In a whirl of action the couple went from two people who had once hooked up to two engaged lovers busy preparing for their wedding. They got married when Fiona was five months pregnant in a small, happy ceremony and welcomed a son into their lives just three months later. Hugo Macsen Treasy became Alice and Neville's first grandchild, and everyone is positive that he will grow up with a lot of support and love from both his parents and his extended family.
Raphael has been leading quite an uneventful life compared to his siblings. After graduating high school a couple years ago he's about to finish his time at college soon as well. He's been visiting Tris a lot and forming a deep bond between the two. Willing or unwilling, Tris has been subject to hearing all of his brother's concerns, from future career (Raphael's seriously considering opening a bookshop) to girlfriend (the name has not yet been revealed to the rest of the family). In all, Rafi's satisfied with how things have gone.
