I would probably be in the minority of those here in sayihg this, but I do think that Janet is an improvement over Jane, the same way that I think any variation of Mary is an improvement over Mary itself, as I consider Jane and Mary to be the most snooze-inducing, colorless, character-less female names that exist. Janet may be dated and blah blah blah but at least it says something.

Between Janet and Jeannette, I prefer Jeannette. I don't pronounce them the same. Janet is JAN-et and Jeannette is je-NET. I put the stress on the last syllable of Jeannette also.
