[Opinions] Jynx?
Thoughts on Jynx? What gender do you like it on? Is it better for a character, person or pet? Any combo ideas? Can it be short for anything or not?

I think it's a pet name.

I knew a girl whose sister Jennifer had the nn Jinx. So that's how I'd instinctively spell it and what I'd link it to.Can't say I like it, though.

As an actual given name for a person, it's ridiculous. A jinx is a curse or something that causes bad luck. Spelling it with a y doesn't make it any better. However, as a pet name it's great. There's a series of children's books about talking animals on a farm, by Walter Brooks, from the early-mid-20th century. One of the animals is a cat named Jinx.As a nn for a person it could be cute, but you definitely have to have a better reason for the nn than that somebody just randomly thinks it's cute.An example is a friend's grandmother who was called Jink or Jinx by her husband (might be Jinks, actually) and other friends and family. Her name was Jennie, but her Polish mother often called her Jinka, which her husband kind of picked up when they first got together. There was also a radio and TV personality in the forties and fifties called Jinx Falkenberg. Her real name was Eugenia. Along with her husband Tex, they had a very popular talk show.

I'd never use it for real but I love Jinx/Jynx on a boy. I've used it on the sims a few times ;)

Pokemon, cat, username, or stripper name :P
Jinx still sounds like a cat name to me, but it's a lot less stripper-y. I think any name that sounds with the "jin" sound, even if there's no J? Like Geneva, Ginevra, Gina, Ginnia, etc.Definitely female.

I don't like it for any human being! I wouldn't like to be named Jynx.
For a pet, yes, sure.

Better name for a female pet

Jynx actually sounds like a lot of names I like (Lynx, Knox, Onyx, and Oryx to name a few), but for some reason it's not really doing it for me right now. I think having a J, Y, and X just makes it seem like it's trying a little too hard. Jinx might be better for that reason. I want to like it... Maybe it will grow on me in time. I do think it would make a good character name and a great pet name.

Of all the bad obvious meanings, this is the worst.

It's so totally synthetic and selfconscious. Jynx is probably the best example I can think of, of a "character name" name. A character in a non-realistic fiction (like Pokemon). Next, it could be a cat or ferret. Female. Jynx DeMonne? haha.
Not short for anything, but maybe a punny nickname for a name such as Dee Dee or Jojo (JINX!!! 123456789 ... stop!). Or a pseud/alterego of a character with an ordinary J name like Jennifer, Jessica, or Jane.
