I wouldn't use it but it is cute. I've known several, including one who was about a year older than me. Plus, we once )very briefly) had a pet lamb named Bonnie about fifteen or so years back. So far as I know, none of the Bonnies I know use it as a nn. The only thing I can think of offhand for it to be a nn for is Bonita.
