[Opinions] Katie
I've hated the name Katie for years because of a girl who was mean to me, and I've tried really hard not to resent the name itself. If anyone can help me hate the name less, I'd really appreciate suggestions (i.e. a list of reasons to like it). I'll always hate the person behind the name, but I'm hoping that now I can actually like the name.

Katie to me sounds like the name of a sweet little girl selling lemonade on the street in front of her house. I find it a very cute little name especially as a nickname for Katherine :)I also completely understand the idea of being scared of a name, there is a name that will actually give me anxiety if I see it and since it is often on food products its actually quite horrible to be scared of it and I get that you want to like it. I don't really know how though...Maybe you could imagine it with another spelling, eg Kaytee or Kaity I don't know but hopefully that helps!

You will quite often see on this board that a person doesn't like a name because of a bad association, i.e., they knew someone of that name whom they either disliked, or who had some undesirable quality or qualities. It's common. Think of a name that you love, and I guarantee you that someone somewhere dislikes it because of a bad association. I've seen it here about my daughter's name, Victoria: "Every Victoria I've known has been a bitch", or "I like it despite the fact that I've never known a nice one", LOL. (My daughter is not a bitch and she's very nice.) There are all sorts of reasons that people dislike names and there is no name that everyone likes. So my advice is to keep on hating Katie and don't worry about it.

It's not so much that I hate it. I'm plain scared of it, and I really don't want to be scared of it anymore.

why is it so important ...For you to like the name? Either you like a name or you don't, that's all there is to it. You don't have to like the name or even stop despising it. Obviously you should not let on to people named Katie or with kids named Katie that you don't like the name, but if you have to be told that, you've got bigger problems.I don't like the name Katie either. It's cutesy and babyish and simpery. I picture some pudgy little girl with fat pink chipmunk cheeks and a piggy little freckled nose and eyes too close together, who's always giggling and babbling like a baby.Kate is much better, but has a rather prissy, English-girls'-boarding-school vibe.

Quite. I hate the name Laura, because of an obnoxious Laura whom I knew, but I've never felt it necessary to start liking it. I also hate houndstooth fabric, the smell of patchouli, long hair on little boys, blue eyeshadow, and dyed blonde hair on women who don't have the complexion for it, but people will still wear the fabric, use the scent, not cut their sons' hair, wear the eyeshadow, and dye their hair, as well as be named Laura. They can do it, and I can hate it, and we can all still live happily ever after.

Well, I love the name Katie! I had a childhood friend named this, her full name being Katherine. She was a neighbor and very nice. She also had a very talkative parakett! lol but I digress.Katie can be a nickname for just about any variant of Katherine, besides the name itself - Katelyn, Kathleen, Katlyn...I could go on!I really hope this helps you hate this name less, because it's a great name! :)
