[Opinions] Matilda and Sherlock
The other day, someone on here mentioned Matilda Frances. I said it aloud, and M. said, "Ooh, I like that," (or something along those lines), which was cool, because I really like it too. Matilda has been growing on me, and I think Frances is a marvelous complement to it. If we were to have two girls, and I could convince my fiance to drop Sarah, what do you think of Cordelia Edith Jane and Matilda Frances? Also, if Mattie didn't stick, would it be weird to use Matea (ma-TAY-uh)as a nickname? I realize it's the same number of syllables. How do you pronounce Matea? Am I even using an accepted pronunciation? If he stays stuck on Sarah, what are your thoughts on Sarah Mathilda Frances?M. and I were talking about names (for still hypothetical children) again the other night, and Sherlock was jokingly brought up. Well, I put it with a name that has strong potential for use...and I actually kind of really like it. Nathaniel SherlockWould we use it? Probably not. Opinions anyway? Also for fun, suggestions for a second middle name, because the last name is Sh--k, which doesn't work with Sherlock next to it at all. So far, I've come up with: Nathaniel Sherlock Oliver Sh---k, Nathaniel Sherlock Hugo Sh--k, or Nathaniel Sherlock Ethan Sh--k.-----------------------------------------

1. Matilda Frances is a great combo, I've always thought the two go really well together. I also think it works really well with Cordelia Edith Jane, I can actually picture sisters Cordelia and Matilda. Vintage but slightly magical too. 2. I think Matea is okay as a nn for Matilda, but I'd imagine if Mattie didn't stick, Matea would be even more of a push. I also pronunciation it Ma-TAY-uh, which is a valid pronunciation to my knowledge.3. Sarah Matilda Frances is nice enough, and both names would have 2 middles too, although I do prefer Matilda as a first.4. I absolutely love Sherlock as a middle for so many reason I won't go into, but I've had Sherlock as a middle for my favourite boys' name for about 2 and a half years now. I think Nathaniel Sherlock is actually super handsome! Of course the surname makes it difficult, but Nathaniel Sherlock Hugo is dashing, and I've always thought 2 middles are better than one anyway haha.

2. You're probably right. I just really like Mattea / Matea and neither of us have the background for it. 4. Yes, I thought you might like it. ;) In fact, your combo was part of why I thought of putting it in a middle slot (even if I was doing it jokingly at the time (which doesn't mean I think your combo is laughable--I actually think it's pretty cool)). I think seeing it in your combination has made it seem more real-life-workable, since it got me thinking of it applied not to a ACD/BBC character. The fact that my fiance and I love the show doesn't hurt either. :P

I never liked Matilda, it sounds cartoonish and geriatric at the same time. Cordelia and Matilda are just AWFUL, like two cranky old cartoon women screeching at Scooby-Doo to get off their grass. Sarah is duller than last night's dishwater.
Nathaniel is good. Sherlock, not good. It's associated with one character and one character only, and is often used sarcastically: "Nice going, Sherlock, trying to put out an electrical fire by pouring water over it."

I pronounce Matea as mah-teh-ah. Though, my preferred nickname for Matilda is Tilly. DH liked Tilda, and neither of us are really into Mattie, though that works obviously. I don't think Matea is a weird nickname, but it is one of those cases when I would wonder "why didn't they just name her Matea?"I LOVE Sarah Mathilda Frances! I like Matilda Frances enough, but I like the flow of your suggestion better. As for Sherlock, I like extra-bold middle names so Nathaniel Sherlock works perfectly for me. Of your suggestions, I like Nathaniel Sherlock Hugo Sh--K. My suggestion:
Nathaniel Sherlock Aaron Sh--K

Matilda Frances is nice! One of the best dogs I've ever had was Matilda, so it has associations for me, but good ones.Cordelia rather draws attention to itself, but it's likely to end up as Delia for everyday use, so you should consider how you feel about that. Edith Jane are good together and with either Cordelia or Matilda as a fn. I knew a human Matilda once who was known as Mattie all the time; she was French but lived in an English-speaking society. I'd prefer Tilly as a nn, and I can't see why Matea would be an improvement on Matilda at all.I find Sarah soporifically bland. Matilda Frances Sarah would be good, though. As for Sherlock ... I once almost met a bloodhound named Sherlock! (He existed, but the visit fell through.) I've always liked the notion of having three dogs - any variety, but all eager sniffers - and naming them Sherlock, Mycroft and Watson. Hugo fits well, I think; but I'm afraid I group Nathaniel with Sarah as cures for sleep deprivation.By the way, I was at school with a girl, Scottish ln, called Edith Linda Marie.

Cordelia Edith Jane and Matilda Frances:
I like them together, although I'd want them to have the same number of middle names. Cordelia Edith, Edith Jane, or something. Edith is the one name that really fits in with Matilda Frances. Matea is fine, although it's not exactly shorter. I think ma-TAY-uh is the only way to say it... I've never heard it any other way, and I can't think of any other way. Sarah Mathilda Frances: I like it, but why add the h? Mathilda is a bit more unwieldy than Matilda. Nathaniel Sherlock is kind of cool. I don't think it would work with a Sh--k last name though, even with another name in between. The other names you came up with definitely go with it though (except for Ethan).
