It's a soft g.
And no, it is not usable. It doesn't sound like any king, it sounds like allergy medicine, or a support group for people with allergies, like Al-Anon.
And it's unbearably posh and stuffy, almost a parody of the British aristocrat 100 years ago.
And there's "Flowers for Algernon" where Algernon is a lab mouse.
