I like it. I know two. One goes by Gen, the other goes by Vivi.

I used to think it was way too fussy, especially considering it is only three syllables, I just looked at it and aesthetically it's initially quite daunting and complicated until you take the time to look at it and break it down.

If I had a Genevieve, I'd shorten it to Eve. I LOVE Eve but I'd rather just use Eve itself.

When French names don't sound French, I cringe. And in Anglophone surroundings, Genevieve seems to become Jennaveev as a default, and yes, it does shorten to Gen. I knew one Genevieve who was never called by a nn, but that was because she wasn't that kind of person, which is something one can never know in advance.

Genevieve is on our list should we have another daughter. We, too, are concerned that it would be shortened to Jen / Gen or Jennie. It is also gaining in popularity quickly. If you don't like the nickname Jen / Gen I wouldn't use it. My husband's family doesn't like nicknames, yet gave all their kids loooong names. Each of my husband's siblings is constantly explaining that they do not use a nickname. They actually get angry when someone uses a nickname (Chris Liz / Alex)
