Hero - female Irish Setter. Very sweet, friendly dog. What is/are the household's religion(s)? Miranda is a Gaelic Polytheist, but we want to raise the children in a secular household and let them choose their own beliefs when they're older.
What language(s) do household members speak? Tamsin speaks English, French, Italian, Arabic, Cantonese, Afrikaans, and Irish Gaelic. Miranda speaks English and Irish Gaelic. We usually speak English at home, but we often speak French and Irish Gaelic as Saoirse is learning them.Do you travel? If so, how often and where to? Relatively often. We usually take longer trips on school breaks (for instance this year we went to Norway over the summer and Cambodia over spring break) and we will occasionally travel together when Tamsin goes on business trips (as long as Saoirse won't miss too much at school!). Please welcome Gemma Winifred and Ernestina Louise! Gemma is a 9 year old girl from the Northeastern United States and Ernestina "Nessie" is her 7 year old sister. They are inseparable and so excited to be able to go home together! They were in the care of their grandmother since birth because their birth mother has always been in and out of jail, but their grandmother recently died after a heart attack.Gemma wants to be a writer when she grows up. She especially loves writing science fiction stories set in the future, and has a very active imagination! When she isn't coming up with stories or writing them down, she likes to read books and practice science experiments. She is very intelligent and has a great sense of humor! She is fiercely protective of Nessie.Nessie is always singing (sometimes to her big sister's annoyance). She dreams of being on the stage and wants to learn how to dance so she can be in show business someday. Nessie was born with fetal alcohol syndrome and as a result suffers from epilepsy and some impulse control issues which she has worked on with a therapist in the past. She has a great positive attitude and is a natural leader. Please let us know how Gemma and Nessie are doing in your family!

Gems (as her new little sister Saoirse calls her) and Nessie are settling in very well with our family! Gems is excelling at her new school - she just won 1st place in the elementary school science fair for a project on the solar system! Everyone pitched in to help build all the planet models. She has also joined the school's book club, and has made lots of new friends there.Nessie is also doing very well at school. The primary school counsellor has experience helping children deal with epilepsy, so she's in good hands! She just tried out for the school production (they're doing Peter Pan and she hopes to be Wendy) so our fingers are crossed! In the spring we've decided to go to Ireland to visit Miranda's family on the coast. Everyone is very excited!
