Help[Opinions] Matching twin names; WDYT?
Matching twin names can be annoying, I know. I don't understand why anyone would name their twins names that sound very much alike. I can forgive names that have the same theme sometimes, like Lilly and Iris, but even that gets on my nerves sometimes.
However, I guess having two completely unrelated names for twins is kinda boring. Still, it's safe and not pretentious.
I'm in love with the idea of names that aren't really matching, but they can mean something together.
For example:
Claire & Luna (after Debussy's Clair De Lune)
Cath & Wren (this is from Rainbow Rowel's Fangirl, where the mother of identical twins wanted to name her baby Cathrine and didn't bother to think of two names)
Jude & Lucy (both are in Beatles songs)
I can't think of any more lol but you get the point.

I think themes are just as annoying as rhyming or matchy.

I love Claire and Luna. Jude and Lucy are also adorable.
They aren't twins but I know sisters named Madeline and Genevieve.
I always thought twin sets like Rose and Fern or Hazel and Rowan were great or Arthur and Gavin. But I dislike when names are as similar as Joan and John or Lucy and Lucas.

Very sad story from the 1950s: conjoined twin girls were born, could not be successfully separated and died. They had been named, I think, Mary Ellen and Marie Helen. One sees the point, but it is depressing!
That got me thinking about themed names, and I first went with anagrams (Marian and Marina; Alice and Celia) and then thought about meanings. I got four that I might actually have used, given identical quadruplets: Clare, Eloise, Helen and Lucy . I think Eloise is sufficiently distant from Helen, but maybe not.
I once knew identical twins called Jane and Patricia (known as Pat), and another set called Gillian and Patricia (known as Patsy). In both cases, these are clearly the sort of names that the parents might have chosen for non-twin siblings, which is nice.
That got me thinking about themed names, and I first went with anagrams (Marian and Marina; Alice and Celia) and then thought about meanings. I think Molass and Maple would be a funny twin pair! Haha!
