[Opinions] Gaia
I had a dreamt of this name last night and I was wondering what you all thought of Gaia. I pronounce it GAH-ya.

I quite like it. It's simple, short and has some substance to it.
GAH-ya and GUY-uh sound different to me too, but I'd pronounce it to rhyme with Maia.

I've known and met many people with the name Gaia pronounced GIE-ə. I like it but it is definitely a child of hippies or witches name. Most of the Gaia's I knew in high school were fairly edgey but in a I shop at Hot Topic kind of way. They tended to listen to metal and pop music. They were all nice girls but weren't in the nerd or the punk crowds I'd hang out with so I never knew them well.

I like the myth connection, and I've warmed to it slightly after hearing it on a character, she was very carefree hippyish (can't think of another way to describe it), sweet and gentle, so that's how I imagine Gaia now. I've only ever heard it as GUY-uh/GIE-uh though, and I prefer it like that.

I love Gaia! It's strong and feministic and the name of Mother Earth herself!

Gaia is okay, but I prefer Maya and Kaia. I say GUY-ah.

In my head, it sounds more like GUY-a. I find it rather precious and New Age, but I'd rather encounter a Gaia than an Eartha any day.

I've only known it pronounced as GIE-ah, and that's how I prefer it. GAH-ya is a little more difficult to get out for me, but not by enough that it matters.I think it's a pretty name with either pronunciation. Although it's an earthy name in meaning, it feels airy and light when I look at it and say it.I've never heard it pronounced as GAY-a, if that helps any!

I love it! It's weighty (grounded -- hehe) but lyrical.

It's alright, not one of my favourites. I haven't heard it pronounced like that before, only as GUY-a, to rhyme with Maia which I prefer

GUY-a and GAH-ya sound exactly the same to me, when I say them quickly. I would also describe Maia's pronunciation as MAH-ya.

Hi Perrine!GAH-ya, GIE-ah, GAY-ə, GUY-ah...I have the same problem !!!
When people write the pronounciation! So I go in the guide but.. it is confusing as well!I asked if there would be a chance to add a file audio for every name with the pronounciation instead of that we have but...nobody answer me.Byeeeeeeeee

I'm English, those are two completely different pronunciations to me!

Really? The GAH part is really short in GAH-ya. If I say it quickly it sounds like GUY-a.

No, really not. Sounds completely different (mind you when I saw your first post I imagined 'ah' to be a long a sound, more like I suppose you would say 'aw')

DittoThe two pronunciations sound completely different.

Hahaha -ah would indicate a short sound for me :P But do you really separate the Y and the first syllable so much? I mean would it sounds like the word guy with an A but with a pause? GUY-a? Sounds so odd to me unless you say it quickly and then to me it sounds like GAH-ya but with a short ah, maybe more like GUY-ya or GIE-a ahhh I can't explain this very well :P

Hi !!!!Good choice Perrine!
The only thing is add an audio pronounciation...for all names!Every name has "pronounced" but also with the guide is too confusing. And also some names has not that at all.https://www.comesipronuncia.it/pronuncia/gaia-3664
In this one the voice seems human lolByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

GAH-ya is an interesting pronounciation, better than the more common GAY-a. I don't think it's very usable, most people would be turned off by the "gay" part and the Greek pronounciation sounds like "Yeah", so it's not much better.

I didn't know that GAY-a was common in English, I've only ever heard it pronounced GAH-ya. That's also the Italian pronunciation and they way it has been pronounced in most countries I have been to. It is quite common in Italy. Yes, the Greek pronunciation isn't very nice. Hmm I find it odd that people would say GAY-a because Maya isn't MAY-a and Kaia isn't KAY-a and these names are pretty well known. But it is interesting, thanks for your answer!

Hecate is from Greece.I'm not certain how they pronounce it in different parts of Europe but in the US I've always heard it pronounced GIE-ə and I've met and known quite a few.

It's my friend's dog's name. It's hard for me to think of it as anything but that.
