[Opinions] Re: Dove and Django
in reply to a message by Array
Wow, those are intense, lol. I've always secretly fancied Django. However, I don't like to use names that are so totally associated with one person. Also (and I think this is both a good and a bad thing, lol), I believe that Django is a derivative of the Santeria devil (Shango). Doves, on the other hand, just bother me. I just find them really annoying. They have a tendency to leave their droppings all over my backyard, so I don't have too much interest in Dove as a name.

Not necessarily, though if you have some reasons for this suspicion, I'd love to hear them! :D The name appears to be of unknown origin, though some theories of its origins have been put forward.
They've discussed it on the Name Facts board before:

The general consensus seems to be that it could be a pet form or Rom form of John / Jean.

Hmm, I originally heard this from my dad, who's a jazz nut, and who knows a good bit about Santeria (not that he practices the religion, lol). I believe he offered some info, but I can't remember...hmm, I'll have to ask again.
