In Britain Magdalen was often pronounced (and spelt) "Maudlyn". St Magdalene's College, Oxford is a notable example of this pronunciation.
It's impossible to know the specific origin of this kid's name, though. Maybe she was named after an older Maudlyn, maybe her parents took a creative spin on Madelyn.
