The Daley's adopt a 5-year-old girl from Vietnam. Her name is Lien Mary, as her birth parents were Catholic and gave her a middle name as such. Lien is very wary of Harrison and Irene at first, but grows more comfortable when she sees that Harrison and Irene wear crosses similar to hers. They notice this and make the decision to send her to the local Catholic school rather than public school for kindergarten, hoping this will help her to feel more comfortable.

The Reynolds family:
David was born and raised in Tanzania, the son of a British diplomat, and after his family returned to Britain when he was twelve he always said he'd move back when he grew up. Now, he's making that dream come true, and bringing his new wife Deirdre with him. David, who has wavy black hair and green eyes, is an actor. He usually gets type-cast as "clueless mzungu" in the locally produced movies, but hopes to work his way up to other roles, and maybe even directing or producing one day.
Deirdre has always wanted to see other parts of the world, and is fascinated with the completely different culture and climate and living conditions in Tanzania. The biggest drawback, though, is the heat and strong sun - she burns really easily! Aside from pale skin, she has curly red hair and green eyes. She volunteers at a center for HIV positive people who were cast out of their families when their diagnosis became known.

Savva and Ana got married last year after a two year engagement. Savva was deployed for a year in Kosovo, and then eight months in Afghanistan. He is currently a first lieutenant in the Czech Army. He is serving a six month home rotation before getting new orders. He and Ana seized the opportunity and were married in a no frills ceremony. Ana works at a high end bakery and is training to become a specialized pastry chef, though she currently makes a variety of baked goods. Savva and Ana live in a one bedroom apartment in a large Czech city.

Savva and Ana were eager to start a family, so they were so excited to find out that Ana was pregnant just four months after their wedding! They were surprised to find out they were having more than one baby and shocked to find out there were actually five! Although advised to reduce the number of fetuses, Savva and Ana elected to try and deliver all of them. Ana had a difficult pregnancy, and was on bedrest for seventeen weeks; however, she was able to carry the babies to 31 weeks, and their four boys and one girl were born without major difficulties. Eleven weeks later, all five babies were home. Savva and Ana have had a lot of help from friends, family, and neighbors, which has kept them sane during the care of their five newborns.

Yr6: With space to fill, and after doing to recent segment on childbirth and attitudes towards mothers in Africa, Maria and Dom decide to internationally adopt. They're paired with a 3 year old orphan from Ethiopia. Welcome Neo with curly, black hair and dark brown eyes. Maria and Dom keep Neo's first name but give her the middle name Natasha on her adoption certificate.
Yr7: Oh my! Less than a year after Neo's arrival, Maria is expanding the family again with a single pregnancy. They don't find out the gender until the baby is born... Welcome Ivy Freya Arnold with straight, brown hair and brown eyes.
Yr8: Maria and Dom renovate the house including building an extension to cater for their expanding brood. It means some uncomfortable living conditions for a little while but in the end the house and family are much better for it!
