I like this name a lot, I do prefer Alasdair though. We have two Alastair's at my work

I really like it. I think I prefer Alasdair, but almost like both equally.

I would think most people in the US where I live are unaware of the name, unless they're name nerds or big readers.

I'm one of the "big reader" and quite "nerdy" too (but only for few things like names, flowers, royal family trees and voyage diaries) so I perfectly suits the description.

Love it. My #2 for a boy. One of my favorite kids at the preschool I work at is called Alastair. I think it's generally regarded as serious, handsome, a bit intellectual, v British Isles. Some might say pretentious (I hope not). Maybe a pinch of sorcerer/magician name in there too.

I like it, especially the Alastair spelling. It does feel slightly dated as its popularity is gradually declining (it was #133 in England and Wales in 1996 and is currently #404).

I love Alastair! It's one of my all-time favorite boys' names. Personally, I prefer the spelling Alasdair, but I think both are great. I don't think it's dated or cliched at all in the US, and it certainly isn't trendy. I've only met one Alasdair, and he was in this mid-20s. His sister's name was Anthea.

I love it! If I felt it wasn't just outside the realm of acceptable names for me to use, then my Alexander might be an Alastair. :)

I'd assume in the US most people just think of it as a fairly cliché Scottish name. I've encountered a few little boy Alastairs though and it's SO CUTE and also handsome on an adult, I've just never met one.

I like it. It's familiar and friendly but not super-common, & it suits anyone of any background, although it's probably most popular in Scotland. It doesn't feel dated because you can find it on all ages, and it shortens quite neatly to Al or Ali if you want it to.
The Alistair I know best is 20 - his sister is Louise.
