I like it, it is classic and feminine. I prefer Marguerite and Margery, but I still like Margaret :) I don't think I would use a nickname for it. I like Greta but if I wanted to call my daughter Greta I would name her Greta as it works by itself. Meg is kind of cute.

I like Margaret, I do. It's just sometimes it sounds so, well, like someone like this nun from Sister Act: (Not that I don't love Sister Mary Lazarus but she's just a Margaret. She just has the Margaretness.) In other words, it can feel severe and dowdy, and like heavy and guilt-ridden and Catholic in a stereotypical way. But sometimes Margaret can sound so pretty. It really depends on who's saying it and my mood. I do like it. I like it best in the middle, where it for some reason sounds gentler and prettier. For nicknames, I love Maggie most. I think Maggie's adorable. I also like Meg, Greta, and Margot (though I prefer this on its own). I don't really like Margery or Majorie.

Favorite NNs: Greta, Meg, Margot. I'm also fond of Madge and Midge. I slightly dislike Margery and Marjorie, so I prefer Margaret.

Awesome! Margaret is my name and I love it. I like the relative harshness of it, the fact that it is an exclusively female name but with a sound that isn't particularly feminine. I sometimes go by Maggie just because that's what my family has called me most of my life, but I also love Margo.

I like Margo/t best. I also have a soft spot for Pegw & Begw (Welsh nns), Mererid (a Welsh form of Margaret) and Mags.
Marjorie is sweet. I'd choose it over Margaret, although I like them about the same, because it's got no negative associations.

How are Pegw and Begw pronounced? :)

Peh-goo & Beh-goo.

I love the name Margaret! It has great nicknames. My favorite Nickname for Margaret is Peggy. I've always liked how it had the country sound. Marjorie is also a great variant too. ---------Audrey, Martha, Sibyl, Phoebe, Veronica, Jaclyn, Victoria, Clara, Apolonia, Laurette, Stephanie, Tracy, AnnetteAnthony, Damien, Alexander, Valentine, Maximilian, Daniel, Vincent, Matthew, Christopher, Russell, Randall, Nicholas----------------Rate my PNL: http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/166097/112886

I love Margaret, but definitely more for a middle name than a first. I love the nicknames Maggie & Margot. I think Marjorie would fit in better today, and I do like the name a lot, so I'd say I prefer Marjorie over Margaret. (:

I like both, but I prefer Margaret because it's never been either viral nor neglected (though it's pretty well neglected right now, come to think of it). Also, the hard g prevents it from sounding like margarine.I like Maggie and Peggy. They could hardly be more different, but that's fine: if one doesn't suit a little Margaret, the other surely will. Where I live, the standard nn for Margaret is Margie, pronounced with a hard g as in Margaret, not a j sound as in Margery. And I really cannot enjoy it at all.One of my great-grandmothers had Margaret as her middle name, and a cousin on the other side of the family married a lovely Marjorie. If I had to choose, I'd use Margaret.

Woohoo! ;)My favorite nicknames are Margie, Margo, Gretchen, and of course Meg/Megan. I had wanted to call my Margaret Margie for short, but she was just a Meg. She's also a Megan, so I don't ever correct people when they call her that. It suits her.I really like Marjorie too, I'd also consider using it if I didn't have a Margaret.

Yeah, I love Margie. :)

Daisy, Greta and Mae are my favourite nicknames. I definitely prefer Margaret over Marjorie/Margery, which reminds of oily butter substitute.

I'm not a big fan of Margaret, although I don't hate it. It's rather dumpy to me, but I do prefer it to Margery or Marjorie, which make me think of margarine. The only nickname for Margaret that I like is Meg. I think Maggie and Peggy are just so horrible.
