Help[Opinions] Purdey or Ayshea?
Those are two names, from what I've gathered, that saw (small) gains in popularity in the 1970s in Britain, though not really amounting to much (see my entries on BtN for causes of the gains).
Which one of these do you prefer? Any suggestions for middles?

Purdey is basically slang for "pretty" where I'm from. I associate it with creeps, so I feel sad for anyone named that.
Ayshea's not as bad. It just seems like an alternate spelling of Aisha. MN suggestions...

Since I can't even figure out how to say Ayshea by looking at it, I choose Purdey.
Since Ayshea looks ridiculous, I choose Purdey.
Since Purdey is actually a bit cute, I choose Purdey.
And I'd use it for a boy, so Purdey Amadeus or Purdey Whitaker.

That would be the New Avengers, right? Totally hilarious send-up of all things Patriotic Spy; as I understand it, when Patrick McNee was too old and rickety to be an action hero, he needed two sidekicks to mentor while they saved civilisation, one high kick at a time. In one episode, I swear a villain was offed by having McNee's character throw his bowler hat at him - perhaps the brim was poisoned? (Decades later of course, life almost imitated art.)

Purdey is the name of a women's prison here in Washington State (U.S.). The similarity to "pretty" is not lost on the punsters. I can't see Purdey on a person. Prudie, however, as a nn for Prudence, is darling. It makes me think of the character from the 1970s version of "Poldark."
Aïsha is nice. Not a fan of the Ayshea spelling.

There was a show, called The New Avengers in the 70s with a Purdey played by Joanna Lumley. I actually started to like it because of her. Purdey would definitely be my pick of the two.

They are both just awful. I have never seen them anywhere and I have to wonder exactly how great that "jump in popularity" actually means. I mean, maybe four girls were given it one year and the next eight, for instance, but that isn't very meaningful and the name was never "popular."
Purdey sounds ugly and like a hillbilly pronunciation of pretty. Ayshea looks like a mangling of Aisha. Aisha is very nice, but there's no reason to spell it like that.
