[Opinions] Colleen
What does everyone think of Colleen? I heard it today on a child (maybe 12 years old) and I thought it was sweet.

I dislike it. Far prefer Maureen.

Hi !!!I really like the meaning..But the variant Colleen is horrible!!Isn't there another variant or spelling?
Something like Caline or Caileen, Calene or maybe using Caitlin?I would rate Colleen with 4/10 (10 is the best). If there were a variant like Caline (KAH-leen) it would be rated 7.

What do you mean variant? Colleen is a name in itself.

There was a small child (probably around 5-6 now?) who came to the bakery named Colleen. Except the owner of the bakery always called her KO-leen (rather than Kahl-een?) so it was sort of strange. She later had a brother named Brayden, which felt mismatched. I think their mom had a third but I don't remember its name (if I ever learned it).I liked it when I was a child, but I find it sort of dated now. Not sure to when. 60s?

I had a classmate named Colleen. So it's not that dated to me. KO-leen is so ugly.

I liked it when I was a kid because of the character on Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. It still vaguely reminds me of pioneers because of that, but mostly these days, it reminds me of words like: collie, collard greens, cholera...which aren't really inspiring associations. It's okay, but I'd prefer other leen/lene/line names.

It bugs me because it's "faux Irish", by which I mean it was used by Americans who thought that they were somehow honoring their Irish heritage, completely missing the fact that Colleen is not used as a name in Ireland itself. Like they couldn't be bothered to find an authentic Irish name.I don't know, other than that, it's okay. Not a big favorite, but I don't hate the sound of it.

I love Colleen. It does bug me slightly that it's the literal Irish word for girl and almost unheard of as a name in Ireland but meh, it's been in use long enough that that's not a huge deal. It's sweet, big eyed and freckled and curly haired, sort of girl next door but also adventurous and daring. I do prefer Kathleen/Cathleen, which give me a similar feel.ETA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FLkbQYfeBs
