[Opinions] Luna or Stella?
Replies
I know a Luna, a very focused and headstrong academic. The name doesn't seem to suit her at all. I also know a Stella who always goes by her mn, and her granddaughter who goes by Stella.
I really would never ever use Luna or even think about it. It's much too close to 'loony' and 'lunatic'.
I like Stella a lot and might have considered it if I had enough daughters; much nicer than Sarah, for instance. But I like a lot of names better than Stella, mostly for personal and family reasons.

Stella, without a second's thought. Luna just sounds stupid. Stella is very pretty.
BTW, there's a famous kids' picture-book called Stellaluna." The title character is a baby fruit bat.

Stella
I've never been a fan of Luna. It just just sounds, I dunno...flimsy. It always brings to mind terms like Lunatic, loony bin and even butt because of the 'moon\mooning' slang. (The name meaning moon) I just cannot get passed those to take the name seriously. I also just don't like how the name sounds.
Stella in my opinion is more practical and it actually sounds beautiful. My older sister has a friend who has a daughter named Stella. She's approximately 4 or 5 years old and although I've seen her only a few times, I think the name fits her perfectly. To me, Stella looks and sounds far better than 'luna'

Hello :)
I like both of them, but I prefer Luna.
The reasons why:
1. It is less popular. I don't know if this will change but I guess not.
2. It has a nice image. I love the moon and I think of Harry Potter and in general of a sweet young girl with blonde hair, blue eyes and pale skin. Stella makes me think of the stars but also of beer (Stella Artois) and for some reason of a loud, overweight, annoying older woman who works in a bar, drinks and smokes lots and likes to shout at people. She also has 50 cats and smells of cat pee. Sometimes I can get this association out of my head and then I really like Stella but most of the time this association is at least there somewhere in the background. I find Estelle a bit more elegant but it also makes me think of a chain smoking older lady. Estella doesn't, but it is a bit harsh and cold.
3. Luna looks nice and clear written down whereas Stella looks a bit messy. I also dislike how Stella rhymes with the very popular Ella and Isabella.
The thing I dislike about Luna is that there are many similar sounding names that are common here such as Lena and Lina. But because of the strong letter U I do find it more distinctive.
I like both of them, but Luna is my favorite! Ohhh and I know a little girl named Stella-Luna but I think it is a bit much.

I don't like either much, but prefer Luna. It's quite attractive, but there are names I prefer with similar meanings, such as Lucine and Selene. I think that the "lunatic" jokes would get too much. Stella, I dislike more. To me, Stella is a brand of lager - Stella Artois. I don't really understand why it's so popular. Estelle is a more attractive, but not my style.
