I don't think you can pre plan a nickname - they just develop organically as you knw your child and sometimes have nothing to do with the given name.
If you're looking for a shortened version of Maddox - it's already short and it only really lends itself to Maddy, Mad or Dox. None of those seem an improvement on the full name
