[Opinions] Re: Zoe
in reply to a message by Felie
I love it, but then I think I'm biased---as many here already know, it was my mother's name. At her birth and throughout her lifetime (1928 - 1983), unlike now, Zoe was an extremely unusual name. Nobody but nobody back then would ever say they liked the name Zoe. It was just the Epitome of Weird. So I think that made me defensive early on, lol, and predisposed me to liking it once it started to become popular. As far as pronunciation goes, my family pronounced my mom's name to rhyme with "toe", with no final E sound. For a while I defended that pronunciation as being a legitimate alternative one, but now I'm ready to admit it was just incorrect. But weirdly, when I went to college, and I had a roommate my freshman year whom I hadn't previously known, her name was Zoe, and she also pronounced it to rhyme with "toe". It was quite a coincidence that she had the same name as my mother, since it was such an unusual name at that time. It's my daughter's middle name, and since she was named after my mother, I think of her middle name as being pronounced to rhyme with "toe". But I don't object to the ZO-ee pronunciation, and in fact, I prefer it.On a scale of 1 - 10, with 10 being the best, I rate it 10!Zoe Camille was my mother's name. I think it's a nice combo.
