Eleanor is popular but not overused. I actually prefer the full form, without any nicknames. If I had to use a nickname I guess it would be Ellie but I really much prefer the full name. Other ideas: Nell, Nellie, Nella, Nora, Elle.

I have to say that I personally dislike using names as nicknames that can also be full names. I don't have a problem with other people doing it but I personally never understood Eleanor nn Ella or Eleanor nn Nora because you might as well just name her Ella and Nora as those are popular names on their own (they both place even higher than Eleanor).
