Australian comedian, radio host and TV personality Hamish Blake welcomed a daughter this week. Hamish Donald Blake and wife Zoë Foster Blake welcomed Rudy Hazel to join big brother Sonny Donald (3). WDYT?
I like how "Rudy Hazel" looks written but Rudy, apart from being a masc. name, will be mistaken for Ruby, and I dare say she will be teased about being "rude". Despite all of that, I still think I kinda like it and, overall, I actually don't mind their naming style (considering that Donald is honouring).

I actually like Rudy. But I'm biased because my female cats name is Rudy (She started out as Gertrude which was shortened to Rudy). It's not totally unheard of- there is Rudy Huxtable. And it's not so particularly masculine sounding: it's closer to female names Ruby and Judy, than any other male names I can think of.
Probably they used to like The (Bill) Cosby Show & Miami Vice on TV with Keshia Knight Pulliam as "Rudy Huxtable" & Don Johnson as "Sonny Crockett".
So, both FN's have a certain vintage charm and are nevertheless quite nice.
I love the Songs Miami Vice Theme & Crockett's Theme of Jan Hammer even today.

Would have liked Rudy if it was on a boy, would have been fresh. On a girl it goes over into the realm of trying to hard to be unique and such (unless it's a family name?). I don't like Sonny, shows no imagination, simply a term of endearment/nickname for a son that anyone could use, so could be confusing. The middle names aren't appealing either.

I did misread Rudy as Ruby! I thought Ruby and Sonny would be a lovely set. I think Sonny Hamish would be a much better combo (I wouldn't go anywhere Donald now), but honouring trumps everything I guess (that pun was a very happy accident). I like Sonny and love Hamish. Not a fan of Rudy, since it just doesn't sound that pleasant to my ears with the rude sound.
Fail. Both counts. Rudy is a male nn and sounds like a big, blundering, stupid oaf. And Sonny is not a name, it's a placeholder, like Sir only less courteous and meant for young boys, usually young boys who are in trouble or looking to get into trouble. "Watch out where you point that slingshot, Sonny."
