Help[Opinions] Jonah
What do you think of Jonah? Do you think Joe can work as a nickname? I know that from the sound alone it works but I guess people see Joe as a nickname for Joseph so I'm not sure.

Compared to Jonah, Joe would be a merciful release.
Jonah is so connected to the Sad Sack of the Bible that I find it difficult to imagine on a living being. And since it's also acquired the reputation of Bringer Of Bad Luck (ask any sailor), I think either Joseph or, more refreshingly, Joel would be a much nicer way of achieving a son called Joe.

Oooh, I like it! And yes, Joe can absolutely work as a nickname, including Joey. I named one of my major characters 'Jonah' and he sometimes goes by Joey. Jon could also be a nn, just by look but I'm not sure if whether or not that is a stretch.
When I was in the 6th grade, Jonah was the name of one of my classmates and I can vividly recall having a major crush on him. Haha :P of course as I got older I realized how much of a jerk he was and that we just would not have lasted long in a relationship together. I eventually got over him and developed another crush somewhere down the line.
Joseph is a great name. However, you don't hear Jonah nearly as often. It seems more fresh than the great but overused Joseph.

Jonah is nice. :) I think Joe can work fine as a nn for Jonah. It could also be a nn for Josiah and probably quite a few other names.
Sam can be a nn for Samson, not just Samuel. Both Joe and Sam can be given names on their own. People need to stop making assumptions about names and just ask ("Is that short for anything?"/"How is that spelled?"); it's not really that hard.

Joe? I dislike this NN sorry.
I think that Jonah is short enough and doesn't need a NN.
But if you need it I prefer Jon.
I dislike this spelling of Jonah.
I much prefer the Italian variant Giona (JOH-nah).
I also like it when it is pronounced with Y instead of J: I like tthe Scandinavian Jonas and the Hebrew Yonah.
