[Opinions] Rowenna
Any opinions on this softer variant of Rowena? I think it has a pleasing sound. The reason I bring it up is that more than one of my acquaintances has recently named a daughter Rowan. I don't dislike it too horribly on a girl, but I was thinking about how one could make the name more feminine without the ween syllable and lo and behold, Rowenna already exists. I now know Rowan and Rowena aren't necessarily related, but they are similar. It pleases me today. We'll see if it's a flash in the pan or a perennial.I also like Morwenna.

I adore Rowenna! I have it as Rowinna on my own list. I don't care for the "EEna" sound but love "ro-INNA"

I also really like Rowen on a girl though too

I much prefer Rowan to Rowena/Rowenna. Sounds less like a witch.

I've recently fallen in love with this name! I prefer the spelling of Rowena with that pronunciation. I'd only use it in the middle name spot because of pronunciation issues. Overall, it's a lovely name.

I don't hear it as softer at all. As sounds go, Rowena seems pretty close to other -een and -eena names which we are all pretty used to. And that abrupt -enna just does not appeal. Maybe I'm too used to the Rebecca + Rowena pairing in, er, Ivanhoe I think.I quite like Rowena, but I prefer Rowan on males. And I don't like Ronan at all. Morwenna is somewhat OK but - like Rowenna - sounds heavy and clunky.A friend once met a woman named Owena and said she'd assumed it would sound like what it was: Owen with an -a ending. But it sounded like Rowena without the R!

Not keen on it. I don't agree that it's 'softer' than Rowena (though I totally agree about the unattractive weeniness of Rowena), and I don't think tacking an 'a' on an already feminine or unisex name makes it more feminine. I like Rowan on a girl though, prefer it actually. I like Rohan for a boyI do like Morwenna. If you don't dislike place names, what about Ravenna?

Rowena is a name that I want to like, because it's romantic---"Ivanhoe", you know---but I've never been able to like it because of the "ween" sound in the middle.Would you pronounce Rowenna as Ro-WEN-a rather than Ro-WEEN-a? In that case, I'd like it much more.

Yes, I am pronouncing it ro-WENN-uh.

I love, love, LOVE Rowenna. It's not something I would usually do, but I ultimately decided on this spelling because I love the Ro-ENN-uh pronunciation, but dislike the Ro-EEN-uh one, and I think it makes it clearer. I think it's an absolutely beautiful, magical, whimsical name with so much wonderful imagery. Familiar but unusual and memorable. Annd now I'm crushing on her again. I get a bit iffy about it, because I worry I'll trip over saying it at times, but I still love it. I also prefer Rowan for a boy and Rowenna for a girl. I like Morwenna, and Lowenna too.

There are a lot of forms that can be chosen, like Rowane, Rowanne, Rowana, Rowanna, Rowena and Rowenna. I really have no idea why many parents pick Rowan which is such masculine as their daughter's name.
Please vote on my lists, thanks!

I adore Rowan, it's in my top ten for both genders. I also love Rowenna, but I think it's too overly feminine for me to actually consider using. Morwenna is also one of my favorites. And I agree, the -ween- sound in Rowena is really unattractive.

I was actually thinking about this name just the other day. I do like it better than Rowena which has a sort of whiney sound in the -e- part. I HATE Rowan on a girl because there are female variations of this name that you can use! Leave Rowan to the boys!
