[Opinions] Wilma
I keep thinking about how much I like Wilhelmina. I pretty much like it by itself with no nickname or i've considered using Bill, but I was thinking that Wilma is actually pretty cute.
What do you think about the nickname Wilma for Wilhelmina. (The other concern I have is that my niece is named Pebbles.. would Wilma and Pebbles be too matching as cousins. I should note that we don't see them very often)

I actually like the name Wilma. I've only ever known it as a full name, so I prefer it as such. (Although I like Wilhelmina too.)I think Wilma's way better than Pebbles.

Wilma would make a cute nickname. I don't think kids nowadays would make the Flintstone connection. And if you don't see your niece often, I don't think it would be that bad for cousins.

Wilma sounds dated to me. My aunt is called Wilhelmina "Wilma" and I only know Wilmas that are her age. How about Wilhelmina "Whim", a bit more playful than Wim :)

I HATE WILMA.Sorry, but I think it's one of the ugliest names ever, and I've been thinking that for years. It's pretty common here among children/teens, so it's not that it's stuffy and old or something like that. I just hate the sound and the look of it.I wouldn't use Bill as a nickname, it's too masculine and especially with Theo (that's what you call her sometimes, right?). I like Wilhelmina, and I would use either Willa or Mina as nicknames.

WilMAAAAAAAASorry, I just can't get past the Flinstones, even before you throw Pebbles into the mix.Is Pebbles her real name or a nickname?

Real name.Not joking.

I don't mind Wilhelmina, but I can't stand Wilma. It's too tied to The Flintstones to me. It would be really weird with Pebbles. I think Minnie, Mina, or Billie are better nicknames.

Aw, I really like Wilma as a nn for Wilhelmina and I don't see the cousin/cartoon connection as a problem. But you might like other ideas. I also enjoy Willa and Mina and I'm loving Martha's suggestion of Wim, which also puts me in mind of Whimsy. And there's always Winnie. So Whimsy and Winnie would be my best ideas to contribute, I think. :)

I like Wilma on its own and think it is going to revive somewhat. Shorter names that end in A are incredibly popular these days, and a name with a striking first initial such as W is sure to gain traction. Wilhelmina doesn't resonate for me; it seems excessive and rather obnoxious, pretentious.

Wilhelmina is kind of fun, but I'd rather be nicknamed Mina if it was my name.
Wilma is ugly, frumpy and almost a joke. I absolutely would not want a Wilma and a Pebbles in the family even if they didn't see each other much. Or a Wilma and Barney, or Wilma and Fred.
Wilma is just so Flintstones.

i like it better on its own than as a nickname. and i like the nickname will for wilma (i think the main character from w.i.t.c.h. did that?)though it'd be hard to be named wilma if you didn't have the confidence or w/e.

I prefer Willa for Wilhelmina.

Wilma's kind of charming. I can see the appeal. I'd probably still choose Bill (a character really has me crushing on it), or Billie! Maybe Minnie, or Emmy. I didn't see the connection with Wilma and Pebbles at first, but as Wilma is a nn and it's just cousin names, I think it's fine anyway.

I love Wilma and wholeheartedly endorse it as a nickname for Wilhelmina. However, Martha's suggestion of Wim is truly inspired -- I prefer that as a nickname.

I think it's ugly. But would be refreshing.

Haha. Really if someone said "there's going to be a poster on OPs who will post favorably about Wilma" I would have guessed it'd be you. I think it would take a REALLY cool Wilma to pull of Wilma. But if the kid could pull it off, it could be really cool. I can imagine an Australian surfer girl called Wilma. And that's how I picture you/your kids, so I think it could work. Not sure if you like it, but I kinda like Wim as a nn for Wilhelmina

Haha.Yep, guilty as charged. I am the queen of fusty old lady names ;)Wim is actually really really cool! I had never thought of that before.Though to be honest, i'm regretting giving Theodora a nickname HARD. Everyone has picked up Theo (from my husband) and now apart from me and my family, everyone just calls her Theo.. it's actually making me sad, but hubby loves Theo :(
So if we have a second child i'm a bit worried about starting straight off with a nickname.. but then everyone else could come up with a nickname that I hate... i'm damned either way lol.

Wim is cute.

Put me in the 'Don't do it' camp. I really don't care for the name, and if she has a cousin named Pebbles? Nah. I much prefer Willie, Billie, Minnie, or Mina as a nickname for Wilhelmina. Maybe Hilly would work, too? I don't know, anything but Wilma. Alongside beautiful Theodora, it just sounds dowdy and underwhelming.

I actually don't mind Willie, Billie or Minnie. I don't really love Mina though.

I think I may be the only one who really likes Mina. Reminds me of the character from "Dracula", and she was pretty cool.

I happen to love Mina.

I don't think so!I've taught a couple of Mina's, one of which has sorta put me off the name.. lol

I like it alright (ah, my poor grammar, haha). It reminds me too much of a wolf for me to ever use it (it's a long story, but it's just my personal memory, not a pop culture. I think Wilma and Mina are my favorite nicknames for Wilhelmina.

It's a good nickname, and kind of cute, too. And no, I don't think they're too matchy... though I am a little curious about what kind of name "Pebbles" is. Is it common where you live? (You live in... Australia, correct?)
vote up1
Pebbles is definitely not common here! My sister in law got it from the cartoon the Flintstones. One of the other characters is Wilma.

Hahahahaha, I love that. Nah, I don't think it'll be too much of an issue.
