Help[Opinions] Chloe or Riley? (more)
If you had a daughter today and had to name her Chloe or Riley which one would you choose and why? What do you think of both names? A friend's friend can't decide between these two for her daughter so I was just wondering which one you would prefer.

Quite easily I'd choose Chloe. Reilly is more of a boy's name to me. Reilly is okay for a boy but Riley for a girl is ugly. Plus the only Riley I knew who was in my little sister's class in middle school was a mean girl. She was very pretty but also a manipulative bully.
Chloe to some degree makes me think of Khloe Kardashian but I knew 2 or 3 really nice Chloe's who were a year or two older than me in high school so I also think of them. Before Khloe Kardashian became popular I really loved the name Chloe, I still like the name but only when the C spelling is used.
Chloe and Zoe remind me of eachother although they have slightly different feelings. Chloe feels more like a blonde name while Zoe is more dark haired. Zoe is slightly quirkier, louder, and slightly more popular than Chloe. Chloe is slightly more quiet and sweet but also has some edge, Chloe is not boring or some shrinking violet.

Riley is very masculine and Chloe is very frilly-feminine, so I can't even imagine being torn between those two names in particular. I don't like the associations I have for either name. Chloe = blond, girly, prissy, popular. Riley = brunette, sporty, and... boy? (so I guess tomboy), also somewhat popular. I suppose I'd have to pick Riley even though I don't like either.
I think Kylie is right in between though, so it might be a good compromise for your friend's friend. It sounds like a cross between Chloe and Riley and the associations are also right in the middle. Definitely trendy which both Chloe and Riley are, and it could be girly or tomboyish or sporty or prissy or anything in between. Chloe and Riley would both sound awkward on the wrong kind of person. Kylie is a much safer option since you don't know anything about your newborn's personality.

I was wondering why this combination of names seemed so familiar to me! I just googled the Olsen twins after reading your comment and I remember watching the series (called 'So Little Time'), I loved it so much! I remember thinking back then that the combo was so odd because Riley is so surname-ish/unisex and Chloe is so classic, feminine and sweet. I haven't seen the other show in which they play characters with these names. Back then both must have been kind of stylish and new.
I don't think it has much to do with the Olsen twins because she's in her early 40s so I guess she didn't really grow up with their movies.
Ohhh and I always thought Mary-Kate and Ashley was an odd combo for twins too. Not that I mind, just something that I noticed. Mary-Kate seems very 50s and Ashley is really 80s trendy.

So I never knew who those were for the longest time and whenever I heard "Mary-Kate and Ashley" mentioned in passing, I thought it was three people named Mary, Kate, and Ashley (which sounds like a better combo; Mary and Kate separately sound more neutral and less 50's).

You are right about the twins' real names, with Mary-Kate seeming rather 50s and Ashley being on-trend. Their younger sister is Elizabeth, so it would actually seem like Ashley is the odd one out of the sisters (with a name more trendy than classic).
I also looked up Mary-Kate, to see if that was actually a nickname for Mary Katherine (nope, it's her legal name), and... I had no idea that former French president Nicolas Sarkozy is her brother-in-law. Wow.
And I'm glad you found the name of the show! On the show, Mary-Kate played Riley and Ashley played Chloe. But in their movie "Winning London" (which I loved as a kid - they're in a United Nations type competition), Mary-Kate played Chloe and Ashley played Riley!

Fuller is their grandmother's maiden name. Can't find the explanation for Chase atm though.
There's also two half siblings, Jacob "Jake" and Courtney Taylor (who goes by her middle name, which is also her mother's maiden name).
And speaking of people who are into trendy names, their stepmother was born Martha but goes by McKenzie now.

I've always liked the spelling of this name. It has a wonderful meaning, too -- especially for anyone who loves plants, as I do. I love that it's an epithet of Demeter! Such a great history. I'd probably be way more interested in it, as I was when I was a child, if it wasn't so popular.

Even though I don't like the names nearly as much to use them or even consider using them but when it comes to having a daughter, I'd much rather give her an actual girls name and not some masculine name that is currently trendy for girls on an obnoxious level. Also, I currently live with a dog named Riley. The name would be unusable for me anyway no matter which gender

Both names are super popular, and have been for a while. If that doesn't bother her, I'd go with Chloe.
Chloe has some gorgeous history and tradition. It's a name to be proud of, even if it does sound a little juvenile.
Riley is just part of the other-people's-random-surname trend, as well as the boy's-name-on-girls trend. Not only is it going to sound dated in the future, but it's already sounding dated now as people have been beating those trends to death for the last 15 years.
Chloe has some gorgeous history and tradition. It's a name to be proud of, even if it does sound a little juvenile.

Chloe. It's such a pretty name. It's more popular this generation than in the past but I don't think it's spike in popularity is as dramatic as Riley, which is super trendy and will definitely date her. Especially if you take into account all other spellings people are using (Ryleigh, Rylee etc.) I like that Chloe is clearly feminine. I also think it fits,an adult better.

Chloe is a little bit insipid but it's a 100x better than Riley. Riley is going to be so dated in a few years time, and it's really whiney.

I know Riley isn't very popular on a girl on this board and I prefer it on a boy myself but I still like hearing it on a girl. I think it's a nice sounding name on either gender. Chloe is okay too but I prefer Riley =)
